Yesterday morning was the big race day. It was awesome waking up to pouring down rain! NOT. They said it would rain all weekend and then when it held off on Saturday for the Phillies game, I was hoping the rain would pass us by alltogether, but ofcourse it didn’t. Luckily it was still 60 degrees, and honestly, I would rather it be raining a little when I am running than scourching hot. The rain was refreshing and cooling. Here I am posing for boyf before we are getting ready to leave.
I am rocking my Atalanta Athleticwear
running skirt. I LOOOOVED IT. I am seriously in love with it. It was so confortable. I loved the two pockets in the back, it held my ipod in one pocket and my energy chews in the other. I am going to buy another one (maybe two) for sure. Best.Skirt.Ever. Remember, if you are interested in trying out a running skirt, Skirt Goddess is giving a 30% off discount to Jackson’s World readers. Check it out here.
I also purchased the Zensah
arm warmers from The Chic Runner’s
suggestion and review
. So worth it. Besides the fact that I loved the rockin’ pink color, and it was easy for boyf to spot me in the crowd, they were super comfortable and kept me warm. I love them. I got them 50% off at a local running store. It was their last pair. Totally meant to be. I love them!
Here is a beautiful picture of me rocking a trash bag when heading out the door. I knew I didn’t want to wear a jacket while running because I would get too hot, so I threw on the trash bag to keep me somewhat dry until the race started. Definitely a fashion statement!
Here is my fuel for the morning. I got the Hammer Heed drink for my fuel during the race, along with the shot blocks and luna moons. The Hammer Heed was another suggestion from Bobbi
. Thanks girl! The Recoverite was for post race.
This is my old roommate J.P. and I before the race. I was so happy when I found out she was running Broad Street too. We met before the race and warmed up together. We both got there 45 minutes before the race started and we spent 45 minutes waiting in line to use the bathroom. There were port-o-potties everywhere and with the 26,000+ people running, everything was madness. We barely made it in time to start with our corral, but it was awesome hanging out and starting the race with J.P.!
Almost start time! Waiting in the corral for the buzzer.
Yes I brought my camera with me in the rain, and yes I was taking pictures while running. It entertained me, and when I saw City Hall, which was my halfway point, I was feeling good. It was definitely picture-worthy!
There were so many people in the race, but it was a great energy. I loved running past all the people, everyone on the sides was cheering, I was high-fiving little kids as I ran past. There were bands and DJs and people with funny signs, it was just a lot of fun that so many people came out to support the runners in the rain.
Boyf was at the finish line snapping shots of everyone finishing the race.
Here is me about to cross the finish line. It was awesome knowing boyf was there waiting for me. It kept me motivated for sure. Thanks for standing in the rain for me all morning boyf! Heart you!
PS- Don’t judge me by my running form in this picture. My hand is mid-wave, which is why it looks kinda funny. I was waving hello to boyf! I definately don’t run with my arms flailing like that!
As soon as I crossed the finish line it started POURING. I got my medal and boyf and I peaced out of there. I was so excited to get a medal! I feel so hardcore. I was really happy with the outcome of the race. Here are my ‘official’ results:
Race: 10 Miles
Chip Time: 1:26:14
Overall: 6,588 ( out of 23,093 finishers)
Sex Place: 1,876
Div. Place: 302
Pretty good if you ask me for my first 10 mile race.
I really wanted to be under an hour and a half, which I was so I was pumped. I really had a great time. I am even more excited for the Half Marathon at the end of the month now. I felt great crossing the finish line. I wasn’t winded, or out of breath. The only thing is that my legs are tired. I am in shape conditioning wise, but maybe I need more strength training to keep my legs strong. Anyone else have that problem?
One thing that sucked was my ipod during the race. I set the nike+ to run 10 miles, and it tells me in my ear how far I have gone and how far left, and it was very off. I am not sure what the problem was, but at the end it said I ran almost 12 miles! Ummm..wrong, obviously. So when it was telling me my pace, it was all off, which kinda sucks. Must be on the fritz! Other than that, it was a great race day, I had so much fun! Yay for running races!
