I Have Found My Happy Place!

Today I was so antsy to get out there and run. I was on edge all day, I just had to get out there! It was threatening rain, but not ACTUALLY raining the whole day, and wouldn’t you know it, that as soon as I stepped outside, it starts raining. It’s cool though, I made it work. I pounded out a quick 3.5 miler on the National Mall. I don’t know WHY in the world I haven’t been running out here the whole time. I have been jealous of kAtemOnster in NYC running in Central Park all the time, but we have our own mini version of that right here in DC! The best part is, part of it is sand/mini rock/stone mix. So its not concrete (which can cause pain in my legs sometimes) so that is good too! It was beautiful running there today. I made my way between the National Monument and Capitol Hill. Not many people were outside because of the weather, I just went on my merry way.

This week in D. C. it is Yoga Week, so I knew I had to incorporate that into my life sometime, and that sometimes was TODAY! It has been close to a YEAR since I have done any sort of yoga. I used to work at a Yoga Studio when I lived in Philly. THAT was my happy place. But since I have moved I haven’t been able to find any place that I like/that is convenient. Yoga week in DC offered free classes at studios around the city, and today I checked out Vida Fitness for a Group Centergy class. This class was a lovely mix of Pilates and yoga, and I very much enjoyed it. I SO need Yoga/Pilates in my life again. It stretched me out, and made me feel so much better where I had been sore from running, but it also made me work other places I wasn’t working by only running. I have to find a way to mix that into my running routine. It was awesome to be able to get a good run in, short but good, and then end it with relaxing yoga!

My Morning Routine

Everyone in the blog world is posting about their morning routines, and I am so jealous. I have to ride the metro every morning, and my commute takes a while. I am so jealous of everyone that can run in the morning, and blog in the morning and even just make a relaxing breakfast. Is that too much to ask?!

Here is my morning:

5:30/5:45 – Hit the snooze button/wake up
5:45/6:00- Shower/Pick out clothes
6:00/6:30 – Make-up/Hair/Get ready
6:30/6:45- Make my morning green monster/Put together healthy snacks for the day
6:45/7:15- Out the door/Get to the Metro
7:15/7:50- Ride the metro/Start my ‘day’

Everythink listed happens in that order, give or take a few minutes or so. It is definately not very exciting. I would LOVE to get up at 5:00 and pound out a 30 minute run or something. I think it would totally jump start my day, and I would feel awesome throughout the day. Or would it make me more tired throughout the day? Would that cause me to rush around even more than I already do? Is it even light out at 5:00 in Northern Virginia. Weather.com says sunrise is at/around 6:00. Is it ‘safe’ to run that early? Obviously I live in a nice location, but you never know about those ‘crazies’ lurking in the bushes when its dark out. Ok, thats me being neurotic, but you get what I am saying! Maybe I should man up tomorrow and get my butt in gear and get out there. I like running in the evening and I spend my whole day excited about it, and looking forward to it, but around here, its been freaking raining all night, it just sucks. I want a nice, relaxing sunrise run, but I am not sure I can have it with my schedule. Thoughts? Helpful hints? Suggestions?Anyone else out there have the same issues?

Rockin’ the Recovery Sock!

I have been getting so much mail these days, its hard to keep up! I got an AMAZING present from Marco at Recovery Socks the other day. I was SO PUMPED for these! First of all, they are in a fabulous color, PINK! We have been seeing alot of that in my blog these days, haven’t we? I was also pumped to try Recovery Socks out because as you know, I just finished my first 10-miler race. And what better way to pamper my feet than with the Recovery Socks?

Here is why Recovery Socks are awesome for us runners out there:

(from the website) “These garments will help to avoid venous stasis (blood pooling in the legs) and swelling. Compression is particularly helpful in depended areas of the body, such as the feet and lower legs where gravity has a greater effect on blood return. Improved blood flow after a workout results in enhanced nutrient delivery and removal of waste products to and from muscles. This creates a situation optimal for muscle repair, reduced stiffness and heaviness in the legs and possibly less soreness. “

“Compression garments are believed to improve venous blood return to the heart and allow for better cardiac output (flow of oxygenated blood from the heart) thereby aiding oxygen delivery to working muscles and increased endurance.” Basically these socks reduce foot and leg swelling and use compression to stimulate blood flow. Perfect accessory for post run/race!

I have been wearing my Recovery Socks since I got back from my race travels on Monday. I put them on everynight when I get home in the evening. They feel really good.

Aside from the fact that I look pretty fierce, rocking my pink socks, my legs feel fabulous. Stylish, right? If you have any questions about the socks, please feel free to ask me. Also, check out the website for more info. I will leave you with some additional pictures of my feet rocking the fuchsia socks!

All Pinked Out! and Giveaway Winner

I had an awesome evening. I treated myself to a little deep tissue massage action. It was a ‘victory’ massage for doing well in my race this past weekend. Also, I just wanted one. Who needs a reason? It was good. Not the best one in the entire world that I have ever had, but it was good. I really needed my back worked out.  I feel like when I run, I keep my shoulders and back so tense (I am sure this isn’t good) and that was the part of me that hurt the worst post race. I’m getting old, my back hurts!!!

In my mailbox today, I got an extra special treat-  Ani’s Raw Food Desserts – 85 Easy, Delectable Sweets and Treats! I am so pumped to check this bad boy out! Should be awesome. I have read so many good reviews on this book lately in the blog world. Thanks Sean & Lindsey at Da Capo Books! This book features recipes that have no wheat, gluten, dairy or process sugar!  I also recieved my Zen Stone from Super Dave! Thanks Dave! I am currently charging it up right now. I can’t wait to try it out! And my final pink product of the evening is a Essie nail polish sample in -Glamour Do – So pretty. I love Essie! Also my still new phone matched all the pretty pinkness, so I threw that in there for good measure!

For my Glee Gum Giveaway the winner is: Missy
“I am a gum addict but the fake sugars hurt my tummy so an all natural gum would make me happy!!”

Email me your contact info girl and I will get the gum sent over your way! Thanks to everyone who entered, and stay tuned for another great giveaway just around the corner! Trust me, you will LOVE this one!

Clearly, I had to try some of this is my morning monster. I went with the Purple clarity to start my day.

I enjoyed the kick of energy from the Superfood Snacks smoothie mix. I didn’t even need a mid-morning snack to hold me over until lunch. I was good to go. I can’t wait to try the other flavors I have to test out~

I embraced a liquid dinner as well, as I pounded a bag of sweet potato chips when I got home today and I wasn’t feeling very healthy. I went with a cucumber, carrot and apple juice.

It was very refreshing! I love the coolness of cucumbers in my juices. I also love the sweetness of carrots! Yum Yum! I drank my evening monster out of my new Amazing Grass juice mug. I love it!!
