Exer-FIT

I have been eyeing up the Exer-Fit sandals from Earth Footwear for a long time, and recently had the opportunity to try them out for myself! I was so excited when they finally came!

After much debate and confusion, I decided on the washed gold leather. Seriously, it took me WAY too long to decide which color I wanted. I am a HUGE fan of gold, and I figure I can wear these as a ‘sporty’ look, but also wear them with jeans and a plain t-shirt and keep it ‘sexy-casual.’ Haha, these are my looks! I love how jeans and a t-shirt and my exer-fit sandals equal sexy casual in my world.  Sometimes I am  just delusional!

Ok, seriously, I feel like my feet/ankles look fat here. I swear I usually think I have cute feet! Maybe they were just having an ‘off’ day! Either way, I really like the gold. They will look even better when my legs have some color in them from the summer sun!

Exer-Fit Sandals: Skip the gym in this one of-a-kind, calorie-burning, flip-flop! Customize your fit with a stay-put, cross-closure that adjusts to width. Triple density cushioning activates small muscles in your feet so you get an extra workout.

When I read that these babies would strengthen and tone the body while burning extra calories, I was totally intrigued. I mean, now maybe shopping COULD REALLY BE my cardio on off running days! How great is that?!

mas pics 721  mas pics 723

The toes are positioned 3.7 degrees higher than the heels, and this slight angle increase subtly shifts your weight to get your muscles moving a little differently. Earth Footwear is also made from Biofoam cushioning , which molds to the shape of the foot, absorbing shock with each step. It is also made from 70% recycled material. Gotta get that going green love in there!mas pics 724

These are the Rose Leather ones I was debating between. I initially ordered the Rose in size 7, because I am usually a 7 or 7.5, sometimes a 6.5, it just depends on the shoe. But the pink ones came in and they were WAY too big. Plus I think the white would get way dirty. So I got the gold in a 6, since they only come in whole sizes. They fit pretty good. I think I have short toes.  The gold also goes with more than the pink, so I am even more pumped for them!mas pics 731

Here is Jackson makin’ sure the new goodies are acceptable. I believe he approves! He seems to like the gold ones best too!

I can’t wait to try these out. I put them on when I got them, and walked around a bit, and I could feel the incline, but I want to take Jackson for a long walk in them and see how they feel then! I can’t wait to put them to the test! Thanks Vern! You are the best!  earthbg2 (1)

Coastal Catch Up

I went out to dinner tonight with the bride to be to catch up. I haven’t seen her in forever and it was nice to be able to spend some quality time together. We hit up Coastal Flatts because it is an area favorite. Its close to where we both live, you can’t beat the mojitos and the food is tasty! Winner all around! I do have a nasty habit of finding something I love at a restaurant, and ordering only that from now until the end of time, never trying anything else on the menu. I am a definitely guilty of that at Coastal Flatts. Proof of that is here.

The bride and I started off with classic mojitos, and I may have delved into the aussie rolls. I love that butter! It’s addicting!mas pics 767mas pics 768

Next up is the appetizer round. Blue Crab and Rock Shrimp Fritters. Seriously, that sauce is pure genius!mas pics 766

I also ALWAYS get the Warm Goat Cheese and Spiced Pecan Salad. It’s pretty small, and after all the other stuff I eat, I just want something small and somewhat healthy, but full of taste. That is exactly what this salad is. I love it!mas pics 769

Dinner turned into additional cocktails outside on the back deck. I had the stoli lemonade something or other, and the bride had the pomegranate margarita! mas pics 770

I love catching up with friends over a fabulous meal! It doesn’t get any better than that mid week!

Jen Lancaster Does It Again!

Pretty in Plaid: A Life, a Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered Smart Ass Phase Pretty in Plaid: A Life, a Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered Smart Ass Phase

I love Jen Lancaster. I loved her previous three books just as much as I loved this book. This book was about Jen’s life growing up. She discusses her family, her school years, moving, and college life, all the while pairing certian outfits which remind her of those specific events. I was so lucky to be able to go to her book signing in DC for this book. I got my picture taken and everything! I had to wait in line behind hundreds of other adoring fans, but it was an awesome day for me! This book was just as fabulous as the previous three. She makes you laugh…A LOT! I also felt I had just a better understanding of her because she makes references to some things from past books. I just felt like we were old buds, reminiscing about the good ol’ days! Seriously, if you haven’t checked out her books yet, you are missing out! She rocks!

Bondi Bands

As many of you know, I heart all things running. I love trying out new products. A Bondi Band is a comfy, colorful headband made out of thick, stretchy, breathable material. These unique headbands have been making appearances at races I have been in. I have seen them all over. From wearing them running/exercising, at the beach, or if you just want your hair out of your face, these things are a great option.

mas pics 746

Rebecca at Bondi Band sent me a few samples to try out, and seriously, she totally picked out for me what I would have picked out for myself if I could learn how to make a decision. I love all 3 and if you check out the website, there are TONs of choices. I love all the funny saying ones. They have sport teams, and solid colors and patterns, you name it, they have it.

I hope I don’t scare people off with my pictures below. I took these post run, so I am not looking my most fabulous self. If you wish to see me at my peak of fabulocity, check me out here, otherwise keep reading 🙂

I love the “Will Run For Chocolate” band that I got. It is SO ME. I seriously do run so I can come home at night and enjoy my favorite chocolaty treats! It’s a perfect match!

mas pics 744  mas pics 747

I also love the floral one. Obviously, PINK is a winner in my book. Flower power! This is going to be perfect, not only for running in the nice warm (even though sometimes TOO warm) spring/summer weather, but at the beach too! I hate when its so breezy and my hair is flying in my face! This will totally help!

mas pics 748

This one is hard to tell in this picture, but its lilac. It will TOTALLY match my race outfit for this weekend <squeal!>!!! I love to match. More on my race outfit later this week, but I do enjoy this neutral, plain but feminine color. It will go with everything, and I love that! mas pics 735   mas pics 751

I really like how you can fold over the band and make it thinner, or keep it wide. It works either way. It is really comfortable, and I don’t think it will ever hurt my head, like some headbands do! I will let everyone know how it is when I put it to the test at the race this weekend!

Pre-Race Jitters!

5 More Days until I no longer a Half-Marathon virgin! Is that weird to say?  I am getting a little nervous for my race this weekend. Even thought I had a crazy memorial day weekend at the wedding with all my friends, I still managed to get my training runs in. I did 5 miles on Saturday, which was rough!! I was scheduled to run for 50 minutes and I did my run when I got back from Philly on Saturday before boyf and I headed to downtown DC for the weekend.   I started around 2:00 and I am used to running in the evening and it was so hot this weekend, I was DYING! It was so hard doing the hills that I usually do in 80+ heat. I was seriously struggling. You think you are in shape, but then a heat wave comes through and it totally knocks you back down! Boyf biked next to me the entire time, so that kept me going. He was such a trooper! It was a rough time though. I am glad the half marathon starts so early. I hope its not too hot!  Race starts at 7:00am so hopefully that will work in my favor weather-wise!

I also got up on Sunday morning in the hotel and went to the gym and a 30 minute run. I was pretty proud of myself because most of my friends were hung over/lying in bed and I was working off the calories! It has felt pretty good to stick to the program.

I did another 30 minute easy run today, since I am now in the taper zone. I am totally feeling the mental-doubt right about now though. Like I didn’t do enough to prepare. Like I should be doing more these last few days before the race. Will I be able to finish? Will I struggle those last 3 miles? I just have to keep telling myself that I just completed 12 miles a week ago with a good time. I have come so far with my running progress these past few months. I can do this.

I can do this.

Zoe’s Foods – All Day Energy. Everyday Health

Zoe’s Foods is TOTALLY awesome! They sent me amazing super sampler of their granola and energy bars to review. I received 3 flavors of granola and 4 Zoe’s energy bars. Such an awesome treat. Zoe’s Foods are:

  • 100% DV Omega 3s
  • High in Fiber
  • Rich in Protein
  • Full of Whole Grains
  • 100% Natural

Zoe’s Granolas contain no cholesterol, are low in saturated fat and sodium, and are wheat and dairy free. In each serving of the three types of granola there is 7 grams of fiber, 7-8 grams of protein and ground flaxseed. There are also no trans fatty acids.

mas pics 098

First up is the Cranberries Currants Granola. I really liked this one. I am such a fan of cranberries. It had the crunchy flavor from the granola, and the sweet/fruity flavor from the cranberries and currants. I enjoyed mine with yogurt and it was simply delightful!

Next Up is Honey Almond Granola. This was my favorite. I loved the burst of honey flavor along with the sliced almonds. That is always a classic mixture I can always enjoy, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you name it. I loved this mix!

mas pics 100mas pics 641

Last for the granola is the Cinnamon Raisin. This was my least favorite. I am just not the biggest fan of cinnamon with my granola. I am not sure why. I enjoyed the raisin aspect, and it was good, but just not my cup of tea. I liked the other two better.

Zoe’s Bars are all natural and have no trans fatty acids, hydrogenated oils, or high fructose corn syrup. Like the granola, they are low sodium, wheat free, and have a terrific nutritional profile. Zoe’s Bars with ground flaxseed and soy provide 100% daily value of ALA omega-3, 18% daily value of fiber, and 8 grams of protein—all important for good nutrition. mas pics 102

Peanut Butter Paradise Bar: This was a really great bar for my peanut butter craving. It wasn’t overwhelming with the flavor,  but it wasn’t subtle either. I liked the texture of the bars as well, not too crunchy, because I hate when the bars fall apart and you feel like you have to break a tooth biting into it, but not too chewy either. It was good.

mas pics 507

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss: I enjoyed this bar during my recent trip to Great Falls Park. It was a great bar to have in my pack and bust out mid-hike for energy. I am a HUGE fan of the chocolate/peanut butter mix. So this was one of my favorite bars. The peanut putter bar is dipped in chocolate! Yum!mas pics 341

Heavenly Apple: Out of the four, this was my least favorite bar. Like the cinnamon in my granola, I am just not an apple in my bar kind of girl. It was good, but just my least favorite out of the four. mas pics 710

Chocolate Delight: Double chocolate…need I say more? There was a definite yum factor going on here!mas pics 642

Thanks Zoe’s Foods! I really enjoyed trying out the granola and energy bars. For more info on Zoe’s, check out the website. You can purchase Zoe’s at a variety of retail stores which carry natural foods.
