Today’s run was simply a fabulous one. I went out around lunch time and it wasn’t too hot or sunny out, it looked like it was going to rain at some points, but it held out. I was sort of trying to avoid going at first, by doing other things first and putting it off, but I really am glad I went out there for the long haul today.
Since it was mid day, mid week, there weren’t too many others out there on Kelly Drive. It was nice today because on the weekends this place is PACKED. I like to run on the little path on the side, its easier on my shins, but I do have to watch out for rocks and divits!
Today I noticed I was running along side this woman who was on her little boat (unsure of the correct crew name) and she served as my pacer for half of my run. She kept me at about an 8.5 minute mile for close to 3 miles. It was fun to run along and ‘race’ her.
More of my little running path on the side.
My pacer is beating me! I must catch up!
Caught up with my pacer! See her in the background? Thanks lady for keeping me up to speed! I wonder if she noticed me.
I had my trusty Garmin 405 on one hand and my new Road ID on the other. Snazzy!
I had a little road block along the way. Another thing about running on the dirt path is that even though its better on my shins, I must watch out for bird poop at all times!
The Philadelphia Zoo balloon was out today. I totally want to go up in that one day <cough, boyf! cough>
The Zoo balloon and my pacing buddy:
I made it! All the way down to Rocky!
In honor of Rocky, I went up and down the Art Museum stairs a few times. Felt good! Some people were seriously struggling to get up to the top. I felt bad as I went cruising past.
The view from the top a la Rocky
Rocky’s footprints and my running shoes
Love that Philly skyline
I did another 8.5 miles today in total. It felt really good. I love long run days! I feel so lucky to have such a great running area to use. I am still on the lookout for Philly/Kelly Drive runners, so if you are one, let me know!

In case you were wondering, the boat is called a skull. 🙂 I do a bit of rowing myself. It's quite nice.
