Aileen’s Running Journey

I wanted to share with the blog world some fabulous news about my NYC BFF. I have referred to her as Kate Monster (a reference from Avenue Q) on my blog in the past for privacy issues, but since her name is all over the Nike website, I figured it was ok to reveal her name and her story here.

Aileen and I go way back. Not really wayyyyy back, but we met in college at Villanova. She is older than me, but in the grade below me. (figure THAT one out) She is actually my Little Sister in our Greek family at Villanova – we were both rockin’ members of Tridelta.

I want to share some of the many fabulous times Aileen and I have had as friends before I share with you her story. We have done and seen so many great things together. Every time we hang out I know its going to be a great adventure!

Here we are at the beginning of our friendship at one of our many sorority functions (I feel like we look so young!)

We have done tons of sightseeing together, specifically lots of exploring in NYC. She is my little tour guide whenever I come into the city, always finding new and fabulous things for us to try!

We even have a yearly ritual of Christmas in NYC. We go see a show, do some shopping and have lots of Holiday Cheer together! I look forward to our Christmas weekend every year.

Don’t we look like a couple in love here?? haha. I love it!

Last year was our first Halloween together, but boy was it a good one. Check out Dorothy and Rainbow Brite:

Aileen and I have had many fabulous times in NYC, PA, DC, NJ, all over the place. Whether we are down the shore or in the city there is always something new and fun to do. I wanted to take the time right now to give credit to Aileen for introducing me to one important thing:

NYC Half 043

RUNNING.

Aileen is the person who got me into running. She got me excited about running. She is the person who got me hooked on actually running races!

I remember visiting Aileen and she would always be signed up for some race, whether it be in Avalon or NYC. I started doing a race here and there with her and it all just clicked for me. I started to love it. I started planning trips to visit Aileen around certain races so we could run together.

She is my original running buddy.

NYC Half 038

We always call each other to chat about upcoming runs, race fears or running issues. Whenever I have a new PR or PDR she is the person I call. She has been running a lot longer than I have, so I always turn to her for advice on form and time and other tricks. She always has something new to share up her sleeve.

Even though we rarely get to actually run together, because we live so far apart, I still think of Aileen as my running buddy.

Aileen is a part of the NIKE Running Club in Manhattan and she was recently featured on the NIKE website to talk about her upcoming Marathon. Aileen is running her first even Marathon in the NYC Marathon coming up in a few short weeks. I couldn’t be more proud of her and her accomplishment.

I can’t wait to come up to NYC and cheer her on for her big day!

Check out her story here. Love you Aileen!!

Green Monster on the Go

Happy Hump Day to all! Lots going on today for me: Class/Lab and appointments and work and I am going to try to fit breathing somewhere in there. I knew I was going to need a good start to my day, so I had to start my morning off right – with a Green Monster!

September 2009 1096

Today’s GM was filled with the usual suspects – spinach, bananas, almond milk, chia seeds, wheat berries and flax seeds

I pretty much keep my green monsters consistent. I have tried a few different creations made with strawberries, kiwi’s, blueberries and some other fruits, but it makes my green monsters very thick. I prefer the consistency to be light and smooth.

When I juice my green monsters, I use vegetables only – cucumbers/carrots/spinach/green peppers along with other nutritious veggies. When I make my green monsters in a blender, as shows in this post, spinach is pretty much the only vegetable I use with a focus on other fruits – bananas/kiwis.etc.  Both monsters, weather juiced or blended, have very different flavors and tastes – but they are both full of fabulous vitamins and minerals!  September 2009 1097

Do you juice or blend your green monster/smoothies? Which is your favorite kitchen appliance to make healthy drinks? Do you have a favorite juice drink mix?? I would love to hear what everyone else out there in the blog world is drinking!

Mo-Rockin’ Mint

First things first- Did you enter my Pirate’s Booty Treasure Chest Giveaway yet? You can find that here. Second – Help me pick a costume for Jackson for Halloween! Check that out here.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes/good vibes for my Chemistry test today. I am not really sure how I did. It was hard, so we shall see. I am trying to be optimistic about it!

After my test I headed over to Mugshots to decompress and relax a bit. I did a little blog reading, apple eating and tea sippin’ for a little while before my lunch date with Sabrina.

September 2009 1107

Mugshots had a tea special today. I got the Mo-Rockin’ Mint tea. It was fabulous to sip on because its a little chilly out in Philly today.

 September 2009 1108

Sabrina and I were planning on meeting up at Mugshots as usual but when I got there I found out they didn’t have any Pumpkin Spiced Lattes OR the infamous Pumpkin Soup! We abandoned ship and decided to have lunch at Whole Foods instead.

September 2009 1109

We made a good lunch choice because Whole Foods was having a soup special today. There were tons of fabulous soups to choose from. In the spirit of the Fall season, Sabrina and I both decided on the Butternut Squash Soup. It was no Pumpkin, but it was fabulous! I enjoyed it with a whole wheat bread roll.

September 2009 1110September 2009 1111

I also got a little mini side salad. I love the Whole Foods salad bar because it is massive! Lots of goodies mixed in there!

 September 2009 1112

For dessert I had a Raspberry Licorice for my sugar fix, but it was not that good. I couldn’t even finish it!

September 2009 1113

Another great lunch with Sabrina! I think we have our  lunch schedule in our weekly mix, now we have to get together for some running action! Hopefully we can run together soon.

Check out what boyf surprised me with last night! A wireless mouse!

September 2009 1103 I have been stealing his mouse a lot lately and he wanted me to have my own. I love the color/design he picked out for me. I love the red! It’s SO nice having a wireless mouse. It makes everything so much easier! Thanks Boyf!
