Thanksgiving Round 2

Greetings blogworld! I took a few days off from blogging due to the Thanksgiving holiday this past week. I hope everyone had a joyous Thanksgiving weekend. I have lots to catch you all up on.

Fiancé and I spent Thanksgiving with his massive family this year. He has lots of cousins and aunts and they do Thanksgiving pretty big. Also, we were met my family today and did a little Thanksgiving lunch with my grandma who is in a nursing home up in Scranton, PA. So no pictures were taking during Thanksgiving with our families, but luckily I had another Thanksgiving to report to the blog world.

My job gave everyone turkeys this year. I got a massive 13 pounder early this past week. I knew Fiancé and I would never be able to eat that much unless we ate nothing but turkey for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week, and who wants to do that?

So we decided to throw together a little last minute Thanksgiving Round 2 party for some friends that were in the area for the holiday. It was fun to have friends over and share in eating this massive bird that was given to us. Keep in mind this turkey is bigger than Jackson!

Two years ago my roommates and I did a little mini Thanksgiving meal where everyone made one or two things and we had a massive feast. This time it was going to be all on me, and I have never made a turkey before! I wasn’t nervous, I knew with the help of Fiancé we could figure it out.

I put out some appetizers for the boys to eat while the turkey was in the oven. We had some gouda cheese, crackers and pepperoni and also some carrots and Wild Garden hummus.

I felt so domestic making a whole Thanksgiving meal all by myself!

There was TONS of multi-tasking going on! I pretty much felt that it was all based on timing. I had everything all set out and ready to go and it was just a matter of when I started to make it so that everything would finish around the same time and be warm coming out of the oven.

Checking on the bird.

The bird is looking good!

The turkey cooked for around 4 hours and I did lots of preparation and then cooked everything the last hour and a half or so. We had a table full of lots of Thanksgiving favorites.

Jackson loved having friends over almost as much as he loved the smells of all the yummy foods!

I set up the breakfast nook with plates, silverware, glasses and napkins (swag from IKEA & my Frugaliscious Holiday Event!)

Fiancé did an awesome job carving up the bird. It was his first time carving a turkey and it was a big job, but he did great!

Here’s all the awesome side dishes I made. First was whole cranberry sauce, which was such a pretty red color. It turned out great using fresh whole cranberries!

I also made mashed potatoes and corn to go with the turkey.

Fiancé’s favorite side dish is green bean casserole, so I made him a massive dish of that. I love the crunchy  onions on top! Yum!

I also tried a new recipe of marshmallow sweet potatoes, which turned out awesome. The recipe for that can be found here. The red mug contains gravy (we need to register for a gravy boat among many other things!) and the top left corner is stuffing! A Thanksgiving staple! Yum!

Here is part of the group filling their plates up!

I filled my plate up with a little of everything! I obviously had to try everything since I slaved away all day making it! It all turned out awesome. I think I even impressed myself being able to make such a big meal for a group of people. It was so fun!

And what’s Thanksgiving without dessert? I made an awesome Pumpkin Pie Cake and one of fiancé’s friends brought an apple pie.

I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving weekend!

Sounds like a lot of fun. We realized on Thursday night that we need to register for a gravy boat too.
