Last week I made chocolate covered pretzels, but I was so inspired by Sabrina’s candy cane chocolate covered pretzels post that I decided to whip up a batch for this weeks holiday festivities.
In order to make chocolate covered pretzels, we need lots and lots of pretzel rods! I took great care in picking out a bag from the store which had minimal broken rods!
The next step includes melting lots and lots of chocolate.
Sabrina gave me the awesome tip to melt the chocolate in a glass. This makes it easier when coating the pretzel.
I wanted to have a variety of toppings on my pretzel rods so I lined up all sorts of good stuff. The more the merrier!
I put each of the toppings in separate Ziploc bags
I then realized that I don’t have a mallet or rolling pin in my possession. I had to resort to other methods of crushing the candy. I used the back of a pan, a ladle, I also may or may not have hit the candy with a hammer.
Dear Santa, I want a rolling pin for Christmas!
It’s going to be so hard to decide which topping is going to be my favorite. The M&M’s are a top contender!
Fiancé helped me put together a little video of me making a chocolate covered pretzel rod. I wanted to give you a little step by step video so you could see how I did everything.
Jackson enjoyed watching me make the pretzels. He was pretty much being a scavenger for dropped candy on the ground.
The crushed up candy canes are a favorite of mine because they are just so pretty!
These make my mouth water a little bit.
Next topping up was walnuts! Tierra Farms sent me some walnuts to try so I had a few to munch on while I crushed the rest. I think these are going to be a great topping as well!
Fiancé requested I make a few Oreo pretzels as well so that was last on our long line up of candy toppings.
Lots of yumminess going on this kitchen. It totally smells like chocolate in here tonight. I’m in HEAVEN!
I ended up making a ton of pretzel rods. Like I said in the video I am going to take a bunch of them to fiancé’s parents house for Christmas Eve and I am bringing the rest to Virginia for Christmas Day. I am excited for everyone to try them! I hope they like them!
What did you guys think of my video? Should I throw in video’s a little more often? It feels weird to watch myself on video! Ha~!

Now I am craving a pretzel! Enjoy the holidays.
those look so good! Want to send some to Baltimore? 🙂
what a great trick with the glass. i made pretzel rods and had the hardest time coating them with a bowl of chocolate!
Looks delish! Never thought of having candy canes on chocolate covered pretzels! Great idea!
I'm drooling!! I haven't had these in SO LONG!! Have you ever made them dipped in caramel first (I used the individual caramels you had to peel, then melt), then the chocolate, then the candies?? HEAVEN!
I love the way your blog looks! My favorite picture so far is the one of Jackson peeking around the green smoothie…or what's left of it! My little Bosco gets to lick my straw….when I'm done, of course! I love him, but don't want his cooties 🙂 LOL!
