Yesterday my parents came up from Virginia because I had a Christmas surprise planned for them. Parents (for me) are always so hard to shop for! I always want to find the perfect gift for my mom and dad, but every year I struggle.
My mom has been wanting to see the Radio City Rockettes for as long as I can remember. Every year something gets in the way, or we run out of time or something happens and we never get to go. Also the fact that my family is in DC and the show is in NYC proved to always be a problem.
This year I took matters into my own hands! I heard that the Rockettes were doing a show in Philly for one day in December. I convinced my parents to come up to visit me for the day for their Christmas surprise! I also invited the in-laws so it could be a family get together!
It was awesome to have my parents and fiancé’s parents spend a whole evening together. They really just met a few weeks ago for the first time, so it was nice for everyone to be able to get together for some Christmas cheer! Fiancé and I got our parents the tickets to the show and took everyone out to a nice dinner afterwards as their big Christmas present.
Aileen and I went and saw the Rockette’s show last year in NYC for the first time and I loved it! I was anxious to see if the travelling show would be the same or not. Luckily it had both of my favorite parts still in the show.
I love the toy soldiers scene.
The Rockette’s are so precise isn’t insane.
The New York City Tours scene is pretty awesome too. The bus takes you all through NYC with some awesome graphics on the screen in the back of the stage.
I wish I could high kick like that! Ha!
My second favorite part is when the Santa’s multiply!
That’s A LOT of Jolly Old St. Nick!
I love it!
The rest of the show was great. I thought it was just as entertaining as it was last year. I was surprised that they kept everything the same
The main differences I noticed was this year the last scene with the Rockettes they were Snowflakes and last year they wore some green outfit which I think was more popular.
Also with the travelling show there was no living Nativity! I was sad about this. In NYC they have all these animals that get on stage – think camels and donkeys galore – which I thought was amazing. I understand why they didn’t have them for the one day in Philly, but it was amazing to see last year!
When I saw the Nativity scene I was surprised. Usually you don’t see something with a religious focus so mainstream like the NYC Rockettes. I enjoyed it and thought it was great. At this point in the show last night, the whole Wachovia Center was lit up with people taking crazy amounts of pictures! Very surprising.
Anyone out there have any thoughts on this? I wonder if people have ever had a problem with it before. I know its a Christmas Spectacular and that’s what it is advertized as, but I am sure some people have been surprised in the past!
All in all it was a fabulous evening with my parents and my soon to be in-laws! My parents were super surprised when they found out what we were doing (in a good way) and everyone seemed to have a great time. At dinner both sets of parents said it was a great gift because they would much rather spend time with us than anything else! It’s nice to know that everyone appreciated it!
Have YOU ever seen the Rockettes? Any other good Christmas shows anyone would recommend?

We've got a company box on December 19th at the Verizon Center that I'm "working." Excited to see it!
I'm going to see the Radio City Rockettes in NYC this Saturday with Noodes and his family! Can't wait!
Another great Christmas show is the the Transiberian Orchestra Christmas concert. My sister and her husband go every year when the Orchestra comes to Wachovia in December and love it!

OHHH! the Rockettes! SO Cool! I have never been, but I've been to a ballet performance where they did the same stuff as the Rockettes and IT was awesome, so I can't even imagine seeing the real deal! Fun!
That looks like so much fun!
