Reading Terminal Market Eats

The last time I went to Reading Terminal Market I drooled my way through the entire place. It was my first time there I was overwhelmed by all the amazing things! Yesterday as part of our Valentine’s Day festivities fiancé and I hit up the market in search of ingredients for dinner. We had plans to make a Valentine’s meal together so we figured the market would be the place to go!

Reading Terminal Market has been a popular source for unique merchandise and lots of incredible food! It is a popular tourist destination as well because it’s right in the heart of Center City. Over 80 merchants in the market offer fresh (and lots of local!) produce, meats, fish, cheese, wine, flowers, baked goods, arts and crafts and other specialty foods. There’s also a beer garden! It’s a one stop shop!

We walked around for a while and took it all in. There is so much to see and Sunday’s at the market are BUSY! After perusing all the options, we decided we wanted to have crab cakes for dinner. We got some from the fish market. I love their motto:

“Eat Fish, Live Longer”

Lots of options here!

Snow 214

Yum! Homemade crab cakes! Good price too!

Then we decided we wanted to have some nice wine and cheese before dinner. We decided to hit up Down Town Cheese.

Snow 217

They had every type of cheese you could ever want!

Snow 216

So many choices, it was hard to decide! We tasted a few different kinds (ALWAYS TASTE BEFORE YOU BUY!) and finally decided on 2 different kinds we like.

Snow 215

When we got home we opened one of our cheese choices. We had the Etorki cheese, which is made from sheep’s milk. It was melt in your mouth, creamy and delicious. Just an incredible cheese!

Do you have a favorite type of cheese?

We enjoyed our cheese and crackers with a nice glass of red wine. It was pure perfection!

Snow 245

Then we just had to heat up the crab cakes (350* for 10 minutes) and dinner was ready. Super quick and easy!

Snow 246

I heated up some Brussels Sprouts with my cakes, fiancé had some rice with his.

Snow 247

The cakes were ok, sadly it tasted like more filler than crab. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for! We saw another vendor who was selling crab cakes that looked like they may have had more meat to them – maybe we will try them next time. I ended up eating only 1 cake because it was very filling.

Snow 248

It was nice to venture out into the city and find local ingredients for our Valentine’s meal. I had lots of fun and I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer out. I can envision fiancé and I taking many bike rides down to the market for more exciting eats!

Valentine’s in the City of Brotherly Love

Yesterday for Valentine’s Day, fiancé and I took on the city! Our original plans for the day got changed last minute, so we had to improvise. A little birdie told me that there was going to be free parking in the city this weekend, so we headed down to center city.

Apparently everyone in the world heard that there was free parking this weekend, so that on top of the 3 feet of snow on the ground made parking very difficult. We drove around the city for a while until we finally found a spot!

We started walking around and then we passed by Love Park! With it being Valentine’s Day and all we totally had to stop by for some pictures! I love how from this angle you can see the Philadelphia Museum of Art right under the sign! Great view!

Snow 238

Fiancé and I waited in LINE to get our picture taken by the  sign. Apparently everyone was feeling the LOVE yesterday.

Snow 239

It turned out to be a cute picture! And we have never had our picture taken there before, so I am glad we did!

After our photo shoot in Love Park we passed by City Hall. It was looking really beautiful yesterday with the sky all pretty, so I snapped some pictures for the blog.

Snow 219

I love that we live in such a pretty city!

 Snow 221Snow 231

The sky was seriously blowing my mind yesterday! I really don’t think it could have been any prettier!

Snow 222

This picture showcases City Hall on the left and the newer building on the Philadelphia skyline on the left. You got to love the Old & the New

 Snow 230

All the cities I have been to have their own unique charm but Philadelphia will always hold a special place in my heart.

I really had a fun time playing with my camera today!

   Snow 233

Is your city as pretty as Philly?

Snow 237

Also, check out what my Valentine got me! You can’t go wrong with roses, chocolates and a Valentine’s Day Card!

Snow 249

Thanks Valentine!

Did you have a romantical Valentine’s Day?
