R.I.C.E.

I have been struggling for the past 2 days. Struggling. After the race this past Sunday, I felt fine. All day Monday I felt ok too, but then yesterday and today my foot has been killing me. It’s so random because after the immediately after the race and even 24 + hours later my foot felt fine. This pain came out of nowhere. I hope its just a little sore/minor strain and some rest will heal it right up!

It’s on my left foot, on the outside of my foot, opposite my arch.

March 022

Side Note: Check out my awesome toe ring. I have one on each foot. I have had both of them on for 5 years. I run with them and everything. Never take them off. Random fact of the day! :)

March 020March 021

Back to my foot pain – I have been using the RICE method for the past 2 evenings.

Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation

Are you familiar with this method? I have used it in the past for minor injuries and it’s worked like a charm, so I am hoping for the same outcome this time since I have another race next weekend. I got to get out there and run again ASAP!

So I have been resting my leg as much as possible. Wearing comfortable shoes and trying to stay off it and not put too much pressure on it unnecessarily.

Sitting with my foot in a bucket of ice the past 2 nights hasn’t been easy. It’s so very painful the first 30-45 seconds.

March 003

Luckily Jackson was there to support me.

March 004

He’s such a good little buddy!

March 005

For compression I have been wearing my Recovery Socks for a few hours each day too.

Lots of elevation too! My foot feels better when it’s lifted up on a big pillow. Or maybe its just that I feel better laying down on the couch with my feet up! Either way, it works!

March 029

I also busted out a little treat I bought myself when I ran 6.2 miles of the NYC Marathon a few months ago.

March 025

I got these for Aileen after she ran her first Marathon and I liked them so much I had to get me a pair too! They are soothing booties!

You put them in the microwave for a few minutes and they are hot at the bottom of the sole. They warm your feet right up.

March 027

They made my feet feet pretty good. The heat was good for my injured foot.

March 030March 034

These bad boys were very relaxing. They also had aromatherapy scents in the bottom of the sole too, so they smelled very nice!

March 031

They are the perfect at home pampering for after a nice long run/race/ or to nurse a sore foot!

March 033

Which do you prefer to fix a minor injury – ice or heat?

Also – Check out Kelly’s video from the Disney Princess Half. It’s up on Meghann’s site. Check it out here. I make a few appearances in the video! It looks awesome!

The Tea Spot

You all know about my love for tea. A little while ago I got an awesome package from The Tea Spot. I was so excited to try all sorts of the teas that The Tea Spot offers.

Snow 405Snow 408

The Tea Spot offers fresh, organic loose leaf teas. They offer White tea, Green tea, Black tea, Oolong, Yerba Mate, Roobios, Herbal and other varieties too!

What’s your favorite tea type?

Snow 406

One of my favorite things about The Tea Spot are their Steepware products. There are so many options to make loose leaf tea steeping simple and stylish!

I was sent the Tuffy Steeper to try out for myself! I love the bubblegum pink color! So pretty.

Snow 410

From the website: “Tuffy Steepers are collapsible silicone steeping baskets designed for easy storage, travel, & tea on-the-go. This durable, reusable, loose leaf tea filter is compatible with most traditional mugs. The lid also doubles as a saucer when your tea is done steeping.”

Snow 411

This steeper is awesome. I love the fact that it’s collapsible. I can just throw it in my purse and take it to work with me!

Snow 412Snow 413

It’s so easy to clean and doesn’t seem to stain either.

Snow 416Snow 417

I tried out some Vitality tea first. It’s caffeine free and the ingredients include – ginseng, licorice, peppermint, hibiscus, lemongrass, passion fruit, St. John’s wort and lemon flavoring.

Snow 419

Put one heaping teaspoon of tea in the steeper.

Snow 420 Snow 418

Add boiling water to a mug with the steeper inside.

Snow 424

Let it brew for the recommended amount of time. In this case it was 6-7 minutes. It smelled so good while it steeped.

 Snow 426

After the steep time is done, remove the steeper and discard the used loose leaf tea.

Snow 427

And then sit back and enjoy.

Snow 428

Do you use loose leaf tea or tea bags?

The wonderful people at The Tea Spot have offered a 20% off discount code for the month of March 2010. If you want to try out any of their steepware of loose leaf teas, use the code “littledogs”

Let me know if you try it out! It’s good stuff!
