Today Jackson took a little road trip into Center City, Philadelphia!
Jackson loves car trips!
He sits on my lap and stares out the window the whole time. I think he is on the lookout for other puppies to make friends with!
I’m pretty sure he’s in the zone!
It was a pretty nice day out, so fiancé and I (along with pup-master) headed down to the city to walk around and grab some eats – We ended up at Franklin Square! I have driven by this area many times, but never stopped by myself! I was excited to check it out!
Franklin Square is a fun little area to walk around or hang out in!
It’s got some fun entertainment! I totally want to come back here and play mini-golf one day! The course features Philly landmarks. It looks like it would be lots of fun to play.
There is also a carousel, which tons of kids were loving riding today!
Aside from the mini-golf and carousel, there is a big fountain in the middle of the square! So pretty!
Me and my Jersey boys walked around for a bit and took in the sights.
After we checked out the area, we set our sights on lunch! I must admit, I was planning on coming down to Franklin Square with the sole purpose of eating lunch here – At SquareBurger!
I had been told from my editor as well as Sabrina how awesome this place was! I read both of their posts on the place and I knew I had to check it out myself!
SquareBurger is the brain child of Stephen Starr, who is the owner of Starr Restaurant Organization, which houses some of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. I was so excited to check out the Stephen Starr “fast food” joint!
I had heard amazing things about the Cake Shake and knew I had to try it for myself when I got there. Before I tell you what’s in it, let me just tell you, it did not disappoint!
Jackson was really excited for me that I finally got the Cake Shake I have been talking about for the past 2 days! He was sick of hearing about it!
He did want to sample some for himself, but I didn’t want to share!
Jackson + Cake Shake + Me = Bliss
It’s pretty much a winning combination!
Aside from the Cake Shake, fiancé and I each got a cheeseburger and fries. They were both pretty good, but possibly a bit overpriced ($4.50) and it was a little small – not that I needed a bigger one, just for the price I thought it would have been larger.
The burger did have this awesome chopped up pickle relish on it which was pretty incredible. I might need to recreate that sauce at home! Yum!
So back to my precious Cake Shake:
This bad boy is part Tastycake Krimpet, vanilla ice cream, butterscotch sauce and whipped cream.
Are you drooling yet?
Do you know about Tastycake? It’s kind of a Philadelphia tradition. They make lots of goodies, nothing very ‘healthy’ but I am a big believer in the occasional splurge! It was well worth it!
Have you ever thought about putting a “cake” in your milkshake?! Such a good idea! What else could we put in there!? Any good ideas?
While I was on cloud 9 enjoying my Cake Shake, Jackson was on a mission to eat all the rouge French fries on the ground! I don’t feed him human food, except for the occasional piece of veggies or fruit, but it was all about the fries today!
When I picked him up when we were leaving the park, he had French fry breath! Bad boy!
It was a nice day to enjoy the city. I love lazy weekends, especially when they are complete with burgers, fries and a shake!
I totally want to come back and get this treat for my birthday!
PS – Check out the awesomely massive straw! It’s huge! I fit my pinky in it! It’s a pretty good idea to make straws bigger for milkshakes! Why didn’t I think of that??
Have you ever been to a Stephen Starr restaurant?

Ok now both you and Sabrina have raved about Franklin Square and Square burger, I think I know where the bf and I will be going next time he's in town to visit.
Whoa, I had no idea of all the neat things to do there. I definitely need to make a visit!
oh how fun! i drive by there all the time but i have never stopped! the shake looks so yummy! oh and jackson is adorable 🙂
That is so funny because I was just talking to Geof about how I want to take the dogs to the park and go there. I’ve never been to Franklin Square but drive by it all of the time on my way to work. That’s so cute that you took Jackson! I saw that cake shake on the menu and it sounds so yummy. I’m glad that it didn’t disappoint.
Happy to hear you liked it!
That Krimpet shake is SO on my list of things I need to try! I've lived in Center City for almost 4 years now and I have NEVER been to Franklin Square…that needs to change.
Love Steven Starr I need to try this place and that Shake!
Wow, another place on my list to visit next time I'm in Philly! My hubby would love the burgers and fries I'm sure and I need to try that shake, but does it come in Chocolate? Glad you, fiance and Jackson had a good day together!
