Last night I had the honor of attending a wonderfully amazing event in downtown Center City. I was invited to go to the Taste of the Nation event in Philadelphia!
100% of ticket sales supports Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger. The evening was definitely for a good cause!
Philadelphia’s Taste of the Nation event brought together the area’s top chefs and restaurants along with specialty cocktails created by some of the hottest mixologists from around the country who donate their time, talent and passion to end childhood hunger in America.
It was held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, which was a great spot for the evening’s festivities.
The second I walked through the door it was Foodie Heaven! I was greeted with so much amazing food, drinks and lots of tasty treats!
I tried pretty much a little bit of everything, but I didn’t eat too much! I had little niblets of lots of different things without overdoing it. I left full, but not stuffed!
Here are some of the eats I tried:
Fiore Zucca from Sole Food – Stuffed squash blossom with ricotta, sweet corn and anchovies. It was the first thing I tried, and it was seriously awesome!
Yumminess from Varga Bar –
Truffled mac & cheese with bacon, gruyere, fontina, mascarpone and black truffles.
Treats from Mercato –
Lump crab meat and cantaloupe with cucumber, dill, mint & fennel, ruby red grapefruit and orange-chive aioli
Snacks from Forklore
After making a nice round through the room I decided to check out the cocktail situation.
I tried out Dante’s Ascension – Jumandor Blanco, beet sauce, fresh lemon juice and ginger beer. This was created by one of the bartenders/mixologists at APO Bar + Lounge.
I was intrigued by the pretty color and the beer sauce addition, but the drink was a little too gingery for me. It was pretty though!
Then it was time to make another round of the room!
There was lots of wine choices available throughout the evening as well. I enjoyed the name of this one!
I had a few sips of the vino. It was lovely, but then I switched over to sparking H20.
Then it was back to walking around and checking out some more food! Here are some treats from Fish.
One of my favorite treats from the evening was a wheat berry and cheese salad from Cabot.
It was simple and amazing. I need to recreate this NOW!
Bindi was another table I was told to check out ( which also means it’s another restaurant I totally need to visit!)
They had yummy Indian food available to try. I even asked if they had any vegetarian options to try, and they busted out some awesome chickpea creation. It was delish!
Another major sponsor of the event was Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe beers.
With the beers came these awesome souvenir glasses.
I may have picked up one (or three!) for fiancé! I had to bring him home a little treat since he wasn’t able to come!
Someone helped me take a picture of the my first beer of the evening! Who’s hand is that might you ask?
Why that’s Bill Henley from NBC! He reports weather on NBC 10 News Today and co-hosts the “10!” Show in Philadelphia! We have worked together in the past, it was nice to chat with him for some of the evening!
After taking a minor break from eating for a short while, it was time for the most important part of the evening –
I saw so many awesome cupcakes it was hard to pick which one(s) I wanted to try! I was intrigued by these Popcorn flavored cupcakes from Mugshots Coffehouse & Cafe (which has a space in my heart as one of my favorite spots in Philadelphia!)
I was temped by lots of other flavors, but I went with my all time favorite cake flavor – red velvet! Yum! It was awesome!
Aside from cupcakes, there were tons of other treats to try!
While wandering around the dessert choices, I enjoyed some music by the band which played throughout the evening
Another glass to take home to fiancé. I dumped out the beer on this one guys, but it was pretty to snap a picture of!
The last dessert of the evening was gelato from Capogiro
I had a chocolate and strawberry mix. It was awesome.
It was a lovely evening full of of great food, drink and friends!
Thanks so much to Sabrina for inviting me! I was so grateful to be able to attend. It was really a dream evening for food bloggers!
Like I said before – 100% of ticket sales benefit organizations working to end childhood hunger! The local beneficiaries for the evening were Philabundance, The Food Trust, The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, and The Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center.
Thanks for a great evening Taste of the Nation! I can’t wait for next year!
