Flooding in East Falls, Philadelphia

Subtitled – Friday, Flood Day – Fun Day!

Greetings! If you live on the East Coast the past few days you probably experienced a lot of heavy rains and if you don’t live over here, I am sure you have heard about it on the news! As most of my readers know, I currently reside in Philadelphia, and today I woke up to a mass amount of flooding a short walk away from my front door!

You might think these pictures look familiar to you. That’s because I am showing you what my beloved Kelly Drive looks like today1

Fiancé and I woke up today to a big surprise! The majority of the area surrounding our apartment was completely flooded. The river had risen up to the streets and water is everywhere!

DSC_0564 DSC_0565

Somewhat flooded in at our apartment, we watched a majority of the action on the local news, but then ventured out to check out the action for ourselves!

DSC_0566DSC_0568

I went dressed in my rainy day best – raincoat and boots – so I could splash a bit in the water. You all know how much I love that Schuylkill water!

DSC_0580DSC_0581DSC_0579   DSC_0582

Our area was so bad along Kelly Drive that the news crews were broadcasting live right outside our apartment!

DSC_0583 DSC_0584 DSC_0585DSC_0586

So I am not quite sure if these pictures put into perspective the actual amount of water that is on our roads, especially if you aren’t familiar with the area, just know that the water doesn’t normally come up to the stoplights! :)

DSC_0588DSC_0587 DSC_0589DSC_0596  DSC_0591

I couldn’t look at the water without stepping in it a bit!

Note the speed limit sign on the left – that should put the amount of water we have here in perspective!

DSC_0608DSC_0609

In other news – I enjoy sharing my shoes with my readers, because I am a serious shoe lover. Aren’t my rain boots super cute? If you are going to wear rain boots, they have to be a fun pattern or color, obviously! I heart Nordstroms! :)

DSC_0606     DSC_0611 DSC_0612   DSC_0615 DSC_0616 DSC_0617 DSC_0618  DSC_0622 DSC_0623 DSC_0624

Behind the tree line in the middle of the picture, that is where the water is supposed to be, only its usually down about 5 feet from there where the water wall is!

DSC_0625 DSC_0626 DSC_0627 DSC_0628

Sick of looking at pictures of the flooding yet?

DSC_0630 DSC_0633 DSC_0634 DSC_0635  DSC_0637 DSC_0638 DSC_0639

I know there is a road under there somewhere!

DSC_0640

So, this is what Kelly Drive usually looks like. A lovely path on the side by the water and a road on the other side.

DSC_0641

Now there is just water, water everywhere!

DSC_0642

I was planning on running on Kelly Drive today, but obviously THAT isn’t going to happen!

DSC_0646 DSC_0647DSC_0648

I wonder how long this flooding will keep me off Kelly Drive? Any idea on how long this water will stay up here? Thoughts?

DSC_0652 DSC_0654DSC_0658

Fiance and I wanted to get a better view of the river, so we walked on over to Falls Bridge.

DSC_0664 DSC_0670DSC_0671

DSC_0672  DSC_0686 DSC_0687

The water was rushing by CRAZY fast and there was so much debris everywhere floating on down the river!

DSC_0682  DSC_0684 DSC_0688 DSC_0692At least the ducks were enjoying their day!

DSC_0694 DSC_0695

Fiancé and I then walked on down to the beginning of the Wissahickon Trial and what were we greeted with? More water!

DSC_0696 DSC_0697 DSC_0698 DSC_0699 DSC_0700 DSC_0701

There is normally 3 arches where the water flows underneath this bridge, but you can’t really see it today!

DSC_0702 DSC_0703

We then headed down to the Philadelphia Canoe Club, which I didn’t know was so close to my apartment, to check out the water some more.

DSC_0706

DSC_0704

Apparently the flood has claimed part of this building today. Crazy how the canoe club is now completely surrounded by water.

DSC_0705

So that’s a little bit of a snapshot of how I spent my morning. Exploring the flooding in my area was fun, and it was even more fun that fiancé got to stay home and play with me, but I want to send out some good vibes to all the people that were negatively affected by the flooding. I know lots of people were without power today and there is a lot of damage left behind from the flood, it even claimed a woman’s life earlier today.

So let’s all send some good vibes to those victimized by the flood have ourselves a happy and safe weekend!

What do you think of my flood pictures? Ever been through anything like this?

Violet the Vita- MIX!

I got myself a little present!

DSC_0497 DSC_0498

Any ideas on what it could possibly be?!

DSC_0500

Jackson was almost as excited as I was to open it…almost!

DSC_0502

If you guessed the most amazing blender known to (wo)mankind – you guessed right!

DSC_0506

I recently came across an amazing deal on OpenSky and I have been eyeing these mixers for some time now so I figured just to go for it!

DSC_0507

I purchased the Turbo Blend 4500 – This is now priced at $499 – when I purchased it, it was priced for $399 and I had a 50% off coupon so I got it for $200! I saved up a bit and  sold my old juicer to make some room for my new appliance!

It pretty much the deal of the year!

DSC_0509

Oh my goodness, she is gorgeous! I think I need to name her! Maybe Violet the Vita-Mix? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Anyone else out there name their appliances? Only the special ones, obviously!

DSC_0510DSC_0511

The only problem is she is such a beast that Violet doesn’t fit under my counter shelves. So I am going to have to store it like this, side to side, but that’s not so bad!

DSC_0512

I can’t wait to use this! Ahhhh! I am so excited!

DSC_0513

I haven’t even made anything yet but I am already in love!

DSC_0517

Blender kisses all around!

DSC_0514DSC_0515

The one thing I did do with my new Vita-Mix was clean it! Cleaning this baby is so easy. You just fill it up with water and drop in a few drops of cleaning fluid and turn it on for about 30 seconds. It pretty much cleans itself.

A million times easier than taking apart my old juicer and cleaning it!

DSC_0522

It also came with a handy dandy recipe book, which I have already looked through and I can’t wait to try some out!

Can you tell how excited I am for this? I am going to be juicing and blending and pureeing up a storm!

DSC_0518

What should my first Vita- Mix creation be? Any suggestions?
