Back to Back Taper Madness

This morning I set off on my last long training fun for the New York Marathon next weekend. I can’t believe it’s next weekend already. It feels like I just ran Chicago, even thought that was 19 days ago, it’s still very fresh in my mind!

Today I met up with Melissa for the run. She set out bright and early and was running her THIRD  20 miler as a part of her training plan for running her first marathon (the Philadelphia Marathon) in a few weeks. I met up with her for the last 8 miles.

If you can imagine, I am pretty sick of running on Kelly Drive by now. Lots of training runs on Kelly since May have taken its toll on me and I am always up for running ANYWHERE else these days.

When I met up Melissa, she was just finishing up 12 miles on the Wissahickon Trail along Forbidden Drive. I love that route, but since she had just ran there we decided to check out the TowPath in Manayunk which extends from Kelly Drive in Center City all the way out to Valley Forge.

Today we went 4 miles out and back along the TowPath and it was so nice to chance up the route and enjoy some new running scenery.

It was also nice to run with a buddy, Melissa and I had an awesome time catching up with each other. Chatting with a friend always makes the miles fly by.

It kept us entertained and kept us on our toes! It was a gorgeous morning and we had lots of beautiful Fall foliage surrounding us.

We also ran alongside the Schuylkill River the entire time. Remember when I swam in that glorious water? Good times.

It was a great run along a new route. Melissa and I caught up on all things with school, running, life and blogs.

I honestly can’t believe I will be running along marathon next week, let along the New York Marathon! How crazy is that?

In terms of my marathon training for next week, I am beginning to get a little nervous. My body reacted well to running in Chicago, but I have been tight when running long distances since the race.

My longest runs since the Marathon have been 11, 10 and 8 this week. I don’t want to overdo it or injure myself but I also don’t want to loose the training I have put in since November.

Back to back taper madness is making me crazy! Ha!

All things considered it has been a wonderful few months of running and I am excited to tackle the challenge that awaits me in New York next weekend.

    What a GORGEOUS place to run! I'm so jealous!! I have some nice areas by me, but I also have to run alone and so I have to be "safe" and not venture where I long to go, which would be a path like yours!! So jealous!! ;-)

He's a Boston Finisher and will run his 20th marathon next weekend at Marshall University. Good luck to you in NY! Can't wait to read all about it!!     A nice change for your running – very pretty and scenic!
    You'll be fine in New York, just take it easy and run smart like in Chicago and you'll be awesome. Read up on what to do about being tight while running and maybe you'll get some relief for next Sunday! I'l be cheering you on in my little green shirt!
