2010 Resolutions Revisited

I can’t believe 2011 is literally right around the corner! It’s going to be a good year, I can feel it! Let’s take a look back at what my goals were for the past year and see how I did:

2010 Goals

  • Cook something new once a week – I got all these awesome cook books for Christmas, I really want to get into the habit of following a recipe and try to make something new weekly – I did a pretty good job of making new meals this year. I would like to get in the habit of making more meals from these awesome cookbooks though!

  • Do yoga 1-2 times a week (at least) – I really want to incorporate yoga into my workouts on a more regular basis, I think it will make me a better runner/athlete in the long run – I am always aiming to incorporate more yoga in my life – I love practicing yoga its more about finding the time to fit it into my crazy schedule.

  • Run longer, harder and faster than ever before. I set some good PRs in 2009 and want to continue that trend! I also would like to make a habit of finding new routes to run and change the scenery up every now and then! – I definitely accomplished that this year! I ran more than I ever have before completing my first two marathons (in NYC and Chicago) – it was a good year for running!

  • Take a Cooking and/or Photography Class with a friend! – Check to the photography class! I did that this year and would love to do another!

  • Spend more time reading books and less time in front of the television. I get so sucked into reality TV shows and watching Netflix every night. I need to take a step back from all that, and I have LOTS of books to read – always working on this!

  • Try Brussels sprouts – random I know, but they are on my to-try list and I just need to figure out what to do with them! – I lost my Brussels sprouts virginity this year and they are one of my favorite things to eat now! Yay!

Something Blue

Since everyone seemed to be just as excited as I am about my little wedding shoe mention I thought I would go a little bit more in detail on the method for my madness. This is a post that I created as part of my bridal blogger series for Philadelphia Magazine. It was published a few weeks ago before I bought any shoes, but I still hope you enjoy reading it!

Ever since I decided on my color scheme for the wedding, I have been on the hunt for the perfect shoes. You see, shoes are my thing. I love my dress, and am very excited about my dress, but my shoes need to be nothing short of amazing.

I am a shoe gal. Always have been, always will be. I think I got it from my mom, and it might actually be safe to say I have more shoes than I do clothes … and I have lots of clothes!

When I decided on my wedding colors and the colors for my bridesmaids — which are in the periwinkle blue family — I knew that I wanted to get a sassy pair of peep toe blue heels. They had to be the right height — not too high, not too short — but just right.  And it can’t just be any color blue, it has to be the right color blue, which is pretty hard to find. In my mind I have a vision of the perfect blue heels, it’s just turning that dream into a reality is harder than it seems!

Turns out there aren’t many blue shoes out there in the world, and the majority that are out there are navy, which is not in my color wheel for potential wedding shoes. I have gone back and forth about getting a white pair and having them dyed, but I am the type of person that thrives on instant gratification and I’m impatient, too. So having to cross my fingers and send a color swatch along with my beloved bridal heels to an unknown location with the hopes that they will come back the perfect shade of  blue makes me nervous.

I am under the five-month mark at this point, and I need to make decisions. I am going for my first fitting in January (!!!!!!), which is only a few short weeks away, and need to have my shoes with me to finalize dress length.

Anyone out there have any perfect blue shoe suggestions for me? Or does anyone have any ideas where to get shoes dyed? What color shoes did you wear or do you want to wear on your wedding day?

I am not ready to share which exact shoes I have picked out, or if they are already blue or need to be dyed. I am waiting until my first fitting in a few weeks to 100% commit to a shoe and until then I am still looking – so if you have any bridal shoe words of wisdom for me, please share!

Wedding Related

If you are expecting a post about food or running, this isn’t it. This post is about two exciting things that happened to me today that are both wedding related – and since I am less than 5 months out, pretty much everything is wedding related these days!

Tonight the exciting thing that I did was that I met my wedding hairdresser for the first time. Carrie is a friend of Meredith’s (who will be doing my wedding make-up) and tonight I met with her to get my color touched up and a little trim.

Here is what my hair looks like now:

Have I told you lately how hard it is to take a picture of yourself in the bathroom mirror? It’s even harder when the mirror is a little dusty!

I am very happy with the result. I wanted a touch of color because I wanted my hair to all be one color, instead of the orange and yellow and dark brown and light brown mess that it had become from the summer sun.

It is a lot darker now than it was before. I like to think of it as a darker chocolate brown.

Do you see the difference in color in this picture from our cruise? It was light brown on top and then it went to all sorts of colors on the bottom. Definitely not wedding day appropriate. I had to step it up a notch!

Before it even had a reddish hue, which I do not like at all. I think a touch of red looks nice on others, its just not how I roll.

I am excited that I have hair all one color and one length. Now I have to start thinking about how I want to style my hair for the big day!

Up or down? Decisions, decisions!

In other wedding news, I got an exciting package today.

Oh no she didn’t!

Oh yes she did!

I have been dreaming about these shoes for a while now and I figure if your wedding isn’t an excuse to splurge, then I don’t know what is! I have been saving my pennies for these bad boys and I am excited to announce that they are all mine!  But no peaking until May 21, 2011! 🙂
