Today is a big day. Well, actually last night at midnight was the big unveiling of the final Harry Potter movie. I have been a Harry Potter fan since I starting reading the books in college. Not sure what got me into them, I believe I just started reading them at the beach one summer, and then before I knew it, I had read the first 5 books.
The 6th book – HP & the Half Blood Prince – came out when I was studying abroad in Australia and I was lucky enough to be travelling by train that day. The entire station had changed all their platforms to Platform 9 and 3/4 – I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I bought the book there and read it from cover to cover during my trip from Sydney to Wee Waa.
The final chapter of the series was released after I had graduated college and Charles ended up coming with me to the midnight release of the book. It may have been an event with me and 50 other kids under 15 in attendance. Charles hung out in the back of the room only mildly embarrassed of his then girlfriend’s need to get the book the second it came out.
It was all worth it in the end because I beat out all those kids and won the raffle! I ended up winning a life size cardboard cut out of Harry Potter – you know the ones that they have outside the bookstore windows? I decided I really didn’t have a place in my life for that, so I downgraded my prize and got a sweet poster instead.
So need less to say I have been a fan for quite some time now and I can’t believe I will be seeing the final movie tonight! I have seen all the movies on opening weekend and I wanted to go see HP7.2 last night at midnight, but since Charles and I both have work today we figured it would be better to enjoy the movie Friday night in an IMAX theatre.
Today I wanted to bring back – Favorite Things Friday – in honor of the last Harry Potter movie. I haven’t done a Favorite Things Friday since before the wedding! So here are a few of my favorite things about the Harry Potter series:
1- Hogwarts – I want to go to school here. I also want to be able to do magic, but that’s another story for a different day.
2- Diagon Alley – I just love the idea of this place – a shopping central for wizards and witches
I am especially fond of Olivander’s Wand Shop
And Fred & George Weasleys’ Wizard Joke Shop – It’s fun that there have been places added to Diagon Alley through the book series.
3- Quiddich – This game looks amazing. I think we should figure out how to play it in real life, flying included.
4- Napkins – I love how JK Rowling started the Harry Potter books on napkins in a coffee shop. Such a great story that yet again proves that really anything is possible!
Are you a Harry Potter fan? What are some of your favorite things about the books/movies?
I also am a Twilight/Game of Thrones/Hunger Games/Lord of the Rings fan too! Nerd Alert? Feel free to share with me your favorite book/movie series!
Anyone else going to see the movie this weekend?
