Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon Health & Fitness Expo

Yesterday I headed into Center City Philadelphia to pick up my bib for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon that I am running this weekend.

Like last year I am using this run as a training run for my upcoming Marine Corps Marathon followed by the Philadelphia Marathon the next two months. For some strange reason, I enjoy running back to back marathons! This weekend I am planning to use the 13.1 miles of the race as a fun way to run 20 miles. Last year, as part of my training, I ran down to the start line of the Rock n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon, ran the race and then ran home to make it a 21.5 mile day. It was slightly crazy, but it ended up being my longest training run last year.

This year, I am planning on running 7 miles before the race so I can stop at the finish line with everyone else. It seems a little more normal to me and I think I will be able to enjoy the race more this way! My only problem is the past few weeks my IT band have been giving me some trouble and this week it has been the worst pain so far. With my job I am working out a lot, everyday, so this past week I have been trying to take it easy as much as possible. The pain comes and goes so I have been trying to RICE it – Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation – and I am hoping it won’t bother me tomorrow. It didn’t bother me last weekend during the 18 miler, I felt amazing after that, but you never know!

We we will how it goes – cross your fingers for me!

Anywho – back to the Expo! I am just going to go out and say it, I am not a fan of expo’s held at the convention center. For me, coming into the city, its always such a pain to park and get in there. But once I was in there it was pretty nice. Brooks had a nice little carnival theme section set up. I won this beanie.

I also love going to expo’s because of all the awesome deals on running gear! I have been putting off buying new socks because I wanted to wait to see what the expo had to offer! i picked up a 3 pack of Coolmax socks, which I LOVE for $5! Win!

I also can’t find my Body Glide so I picked up the new For Her version for $6 too! Double Win!

The rest of my time at the expo consisted of walking around and just checking everything out. I have a good amount of the stuff the vendors are selling so I just like to walk around and see if anything is new. This shirt did catch my eye:

I also got to see Dan from Biggest Loser which was pretty awesome considering I love that show! And then I ended my time at the expo with some carbs – who doesn’t love free beer!

Here is the race shirt and bib for tomorrow. SO much better than the bright orange from last year – I enjoy the navy and the logo.

Cute, right?

Another race as a Brinkley!

And all the fun swag!

I enjoy the fact that they gave us a good bumper sticker from the race and I think it’s cute, but once you have the big 26.2 on your car, you are good to go!

If you see me at the race tomorrow – give me some 20 mile love!

Who else is running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia 1/2 Marathon in the morning?

I love the shirt!! I’m also running a half marathon as a training run tomorrow for the Niagara Falls Marathon in October.

Good luck on your long run/race! It sounds like a much better idea to run the 7 miles before so you can be done at the finish line. 🙂

The Philly Half was supposed to be the first half marathon I was going to run, and then I hurt myself a couple weeks before. I was so upset I couldn’t run it I came home from school that weekend because I knew so many people who were running and I was disappointed I couldn’t! It’s my goal one of these days to get back there and actually run it now!
