Julia Child’s Kitchen

After a delicious lunch at the National Gallery of Art, it was time to see some of the sights!

No foodie’s trip to the Nation’s Capitol would be complete without a trip to Julia Child’s kitchen.

I think it was super cool to see the actual kitchen, not a replica, used by Julia herself.

This was more than just a kitchen – this was also the actual set for 3 of Julia Child’s cooking shows – she taped them right here in her home!

I thought the chairs were pretty neat.

But the whole space was just awesome in general!

I am a big fan of not only Julia Child herself, but also the movie Julie & Julia so seeing this space was a fun experience!

Don’t we look like BFF’s? I think we do!

While we were at the Smithsonian to see Julia Child’s kitchen we also peeked upstairs to see some other cool exhibits. I was particularly excited to check out The First Ladies – which featured inaugural gowns from the First Ladies!

Michelle Obama’s was by far my favorite , Jackie Kennedy came in a close second, but they were all pretty spectacular. It’s pretty amazing that all the gowns, dresses and jewels are owned by the Archives!

Jimmy Choo’s – a First Lady after my own heart!

Aside from all the other amazing artifacts on display, my trip to DC would have been incomplete without getting to see Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz!

Pretty amazing right?

What is the coolest thing you have ever seen on display in a museum?

I’ve seen a space shuttle and the hope diamond. Both very cool but I would have to say, by far, the best thing I’ve ever seen is the original Kermit The Frog there in DC. Soooo awesome!

I read somewhere they were auctioning off the ruby red slipper for something like 2 or 3 million. I am so glad to see them safe somewhere, since that is by far my favorite movie of all time.

Wow – Julia’s kitchen had all kinds of gadgets and equipment – it certainly looked like it was a place she loved. I remember seeing the First Ladies gowns as a child, boy have I missed a few!

I lived in Kansas for 8 years, so I can relate to the ruby slippers. I was able to see the actual lion that roars, (though he was stuffed) from the MGM movies. He is in a museum in Kansas.
