How Many: Art Museum Steps

Today I challenged myself to answer a question I have been asking myself for a while now.

How many times would I have to go up and down the Art Museum steps to run a mile?

I am always incorporating a few runs up and down the steps into my workouts on a weekly basis. The stairs may not look too scary, but they will get your heart rate UP! real quick if you sprint to the top!

This afternoon I made my way over to the Art Museum with a plan: Go up and down, hitting every step each time and add a 1 to my Notes on my iPhone after going up and down each time.

I started at the same place during every loop up and down to make sure I was consistent.

The answer to my question is 12!

12 time up (and back down!) the Art Museum steps will get you to 1 mile.

It will also burn a few extra calories than a regular 1 mile run!

My favorite part about my little test was to see what the GPS map looked like!

Makes me laugh – I love the little red line back and forth! Looks so sad but it’s a whole mile!

So there you have it folks – The answer to your burning question of “How many times up & down the Art Museum steps would make a mile!”

    What GPS do you use? I got the Polar Heart Rate Monitor for Christmas now I need to add a GPS to the mix.

      I use the Map My Run app on my iPhone.
      I also have a Garmin Forerunner too!
