First Ride Free at FlyWheel {Philadelphia}

first class free

Today I had the pleasure of checking out a brand new spinning studio in Philly – FlyWheel

FlyWheel just opened last weekend, its literally brand spankin’ new – located at 15th & Locust in Center City. I met up with Aileen to get our spin on this morning -> we had our First Ride Free. I love being able to test out a new studio or gym for free before purchasing a class!

This was my first time hearing about/experiencing a FlyWheel studio  – its stadium cycling at its finest, making every seat in the house a good one!

There are also TONS of class times all throughout the day, which I love. Today we took Carrie W’s class & it was a serious butt-kicker! {in the most awesome way possible!}

Another cool thing about FlyWheel is you can reserve a specific bike ahead of time & there are some awesome extras included: free towels, lockers & bike shoes should you need them. The studio is simply gorgeous inside – separate bathrooms, showers & changing rooms with all sorts of amenities to use.

There are also extra padded bike seat cushions {which I ALWAYS need!}

Personally I was excited to test out bike shoes for the first time – I have never ‘clipped in” during a class before, so this was my first experiencing using real bike shoes. It was awesome to test out & it made the spin class a really different experience {for my legs!} – such a different feeling with the pushing & pulling of the pedals while being clipped in.

I enjoyed the fact that since the studio was so new, the shoes were very clean. It’s also nice to be able to have the shoes there for you to use if you want, without having to pay for them or carry them around with you all day if you go to a later class. Trying them out today made me want to get my own pair!

This studio was massive & had A TON of bikes – since we went to a 9:30am class & the studio is still so new, the class wasn’t packed, but you can certainly fit a lot of people in here for class on any given day.

Another cool thing about this class was there are 2 & 4 lb. weights attached to each of the bike – in the middle of the class we did  some arm work {while still pedaling} – it was nice to include that in the class and it was surprisingly tough!

I wore my new ellie outfit for the occasion – the top was amazing {i’m obsessed!}

Oh Hey! Looking sexy before getting super sweaty in class with Aileen.

Each bike also had a “tech-pack” attached which displays  your resistance (“torq”), your speed (RPM’s) and your power output (current and cumulative for the class). This allows you to know how you’re performing at all times.

torq

You also have the option when you sign up to participate in the in-studio Torqboards – large-screen displays that occasionally flash leaderboards that show how you’re performing. Check me out in last place. Yikes. At least there is no where to go but up!

leaderboard

When you sign up & log into your account you will be able to track your stats for every ride which will be recorded for you. You can see your own metrics for every ride you take with Flywheel, including RPM’s, Torq, Speed, Power, Distance and estimated calories. This is awesome if you want to set some goals and keep track of your performance over time.

I also wore my heart rate monitor to class today – check out my calories burned in the 45 minute class – 582 calories burned, not to shabby if you ask me!

All in all, my first FlyWheel experience was an awesome one! I would definitely recommend anyone who loves a good spin class to try it out. It was a great studio, awesome location, fantastic equipment & amazing calorie burn – I can’t wait to go back again for my next class!

Happy Spinning!

    looks like an awesome place – I live only a few blocks away, so I def need to stop by for a free class to see how it is.
