Hawthorne’s Beer Boutique & Gourmet Eatery

Last night, in an attempt to avoid all the craziness that comes along with St. Patrick’s Day in Philadelphia, Charles & I went out with a group of friends in South Philly to a new {to us} spot – Hawthorne’s Beer Boutique & Gourmet Eatery. Our friends just bought a row home right around the corner so they were pumped to check out this new spot that apparently is always crazy busy – we were happy to join them in on the fun!

Hawthorne’s is a true beer cafe with over 1,000 single bottles, 12 specialty growler fills, 8 rotating drafts while also offering breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Like the Corner Foodery, which we visited last weekend – there are lots of beer options. The fun thing about this place is you can order a draft {there were lots of good one’s on tap!} or you can go up to the many refrigerators, pick your favorite beer, scan it & the cost gets added to your table. Most beers are in the $3 range, which is pretty awesome considering the wide variety.

The beers are in sections based on where they are made featuring different locations around the world as well as Philadelphia specific & seasonal selections. I went with the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter & it was insanely good.

The food at Hawthorne’s was just as great as the beer selection! Unfortunately the lighting wasn’t that amazing for food photography last night. I did manage to get a shot of my dinner – the Short Rib Tacos – Flour tortillas filled with slowly braised beef, lettuce, onion and sharp Italian cheddar topped with tomato avocado salsa, cilantro sour cream and ranchero sauce served alongside tortilla chips topped with fresh pico de gallo and sour cream.

The short ribs were Out.Of.This.World. I would go back again and get the same amazing meal.

Our table of 6 got a wide variety of the menu options to enjoy, including some really great appetizers. The food, the vibe & the beers at Hawthorne’s were seriously awesome.

If you are in the South Philly area or just looking for an good meal with some fantastic beer options – you must add Hawthorne’s to your list!

I adore Hawthorne’s! We go mostly for brunch, but recently went for dinner and it was amazing. I love the atmosphere, food, beer options, and friendly staff. Doesn’t hurt that it’s not too far from my apartment in CC. 😀
