If you loved Born to Run – you will love The Cool Impossible.
I enjoyed every minute I spent reading The Cool Impossible: a goal pursued by dreaming beyond fear and living beyond limits. I was hooked when the book stated that Athleticism is Awareness. Everything comes back to athleticism as an awareness of form and technique, awareness of effort level and {most important} awareness of what we think and what we don’t think. From that awareness stems endless potential and improvement, progress and mastery.
I love that mindset. I think most runners would agree. With running, you set a goal {or sign up for a race} – map out a training schedule and put in the work. You do speed work, you will get faster. You cross-train, you will get stronger. You log more miles, you can go farther.
With Eric Orton, training begins with a new idea of strength, which he believes is the ability to use stored up energy in our muscles to create power, to propel and stabilize movement as efficiently as possible – specifically foot and leg strength – followed by upper body and core strength. Makes sense being that we are talking about running, right? Within The Cool Impossible, Orton creates a True Strength Program to improve your athleticism, to train your body to help you become a better, more natural runner.
The program focuses on proper running form {with pictures!}, strength development and cardiovascular training – but more importantly Orton teachers runners to find the joy in running. The Cool Impossible is about getting back to daydreaming and creating the biggest, coolest fantasy we can think to achieve – it’s about embracing the fear, urging everyone to run and live like you mean it.
