Baby Bump: 16 Weeks Pregnant

16 Weeks

How far along are you? I can’t believe I am at 16 weeks! This week sure feels like time is flying by. In two weeks, I will be in my 5th month and two weeks after that we will be halfway through the pregnancy. Its so crazy how during the majority of the first 20 weeks, most people don’t have a clue you are pregnant and then all of a sudden the belly begins to pop and it becomes more noticeable. For me, I think its nuts how in the morning I don’t really look pregnant at all, but after eating and walking around all day, especially in certain outfits, the bump seriously pops out at night! I also think I look more pregnant in photos than I do in real life, but that’s just me – I’m not really seeing it yet, but other people are and that makes me smile!

How I’m feeling: Feeling pretty good – I only start to feel a little off if I wait to long to eat, and then I start to feel sick pretty quick. Lots of mini meals and small snacks throughout the day for me. I definitely have more energy which has been good because the past week was pretty busy – and the weeks ahead look even busier! This week I have been feeling more like myself, which has been great.

Total weight gain: Will report back after my doctor’s appointment next week!

How big is baby? Baby is the size of an avocado this week – makes me want guacamole! Yum! This week he/she is about 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces.

Other growth news for week 16 – Baby has started growing toenails this week and his/her heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, which will continue to increase as development continues. Tiny bones are forming in baby’s ears meaning he/she can hear voices. Eyebrows, lashes, and hair continue to fill in, and taste buds are forming.

Maternity clothes: Since it’s summer, it’s been easy for me to wear most of my maxi dresses and skirts, which are very comfortable and light. I can still wear a good amount of my regular clothes and went through my closet last week packing up anything/everything that was too tight or uncomfortable. I’m going to continue to remove the clothes that I can’t wear right now to try to keep things easier. I still need to pick up some new sport bras – I know everyone has great suggestions for brands online, but I feel like I need to try them on in person to really decide, hopefully I can pick up a new one this week!

16 Week Baby Bump

Sleep: Still waking up early this week, for absolutely no reason which is no fun. I’ve also been having trouble getting comfortable and falling to sleep at night, unlike the past few weeks where my head hit the pillow and I was out.

Best moment this week: Talking to my dad on the phone when I was able to pick up the baby’s heartrate using a fetal heart rate monitor – it was pretty cool to share that moment with him 200 miles away!

Movement: Definitely feeling some flutters this week – it’s still hard to differentiate what is baby and what is just me but after I eat certain things or when I lay down at night I feel a little something moving around in there. I can’t wait to feel the first kick!

Food cravings: Granny Smith Apples, Oranges, Pizza, Fresh Salad {but I don’t want to make it}, Baked Ziti

Food aversions: still chicken, unless it’s shredded.

Belly button in or out: In.

What I Miss: Huevos Rancheros at my favorite spot. Sometimes a girl just needs a little uncooked egg!

What I’m looking forward to: Being able to say he or she. We are starting to think about our nursery and its tough without knowing the gender. Three weeks until our anatomy scan!

Milestone: Baby’s firsts {in my belly} this week: –  first dip in the Atlantic Ocean, first time at the movies and first wedding – it was a busy week!

Was that a bikini I saw the baby don for his/her first dip in the Atlantic Ocean? I see a slight change from week 15 – looking great! So glad you are feeling more like yourself now – the weeks are sure flying by!

Hi there! I ran across your blog while searching for 16 week images. I like to compare my bump to others. Weird? Maybe. 🙂 Looks like you’re a few weeks ahead of me, but I just wanted to comment that I agree…it is weird to not look pregnant in the morning…but by the end of the day you are prego for sure! I’m also glad to hear that I’m not the only one who is already feeling flutters. Oh…and you made me laugh when you said you crave salads but don’t feel like making them! That is all!
