Baby Bump: 40 Weeks Pregnant

Eviction Notice

Today is my Due Date!

Stay tuned to Instagram & Facebook for baby updates!

How far along are you? Today is my due date. I honestly never thought I would be writing this post. In fact, I have put it off as long as possible, crossing my fingers I would go into labor. I am actually crossing my fingers right now, hoping I go into labor as I type. I have LOVED writing these posts & sharing my pregnancy with you every week, but let’s be real – at this point, I am ready for my baby!

How I’m feeling: Feeling alright. I go from feeling normal {and mentally thinking that this is the calm before the storm  -waiting for “real” contractions to start} to feeling pretty uncomfortable, reading into every single pain & discomfort wondering if THIS IS IT! It is seriously a roller coaster of crazy emotions – everyone in my family is on the edge of their seats waiting for The Call! I honestly can’t complain because it’s been a pretty great pregnancy overall, but these last few weeks with the extra weight of the big belly & waiting game for the baby is really tough!

Total weight gain: Up 27 pounds total for this pregnancy. As of my apportionment last week I was 3 cm dilated / 80% effaced & 0 station – come on baby!

How big is baby: Baby is the size of a small pumpkin this week and is seriously running out of room. Word on the street – from my iPhone apps – is that baby is weighing in around 7.5 pounds. I can’t wait to see how big he is at birth!

Maternity clothes: No update here of anything exciting – working on organizing my closet a little bit so it’s easy to grab tops that will be easy to nurse in, but other than that I have been pretty much just living in sweat pants & flannel shirts that don’t button. Also, they are calling for another serious snow storm here in Philly today – did I mention I haven’t been able to button up my jacket in 2 months? My belly is cold!

Sleep: I have been sleeping fairly well this week – going to bed early and not waking up too early, which is great. But still waking up every few hours to pee. A few times this week I woke up with a contraction or two, but I think it was a combination of back pain from laying in a weird position and the baby pressing on my bladder – but at this point it’s hard to tell what’s what! Needless to say, we are on high alert!

Best moment this week: No best moment this week – just lots of waiting…and waiting…and waiting…for baby to come. I have kept on top of the laundry & cleaning & dishes – really trying to make sure that when it’s time to go to the hospital, everything is in order when we come back home with a newborn in tow. But I did manage to take a pretty awesome bubble bath which made me very happy.

Movement: Surprisingly lots of crazy movement this week. Not sure if he is getting frustrated with his lack of space or what but his movements are funny because he is now able to put so much weight/force behind them.

Food cravings: Nothing new to report, pretty much the same things I’ve been loving the entire pregnancy. I have been making a slight effort to eat more spicy foods, in an effort to kick start labor, but it hasn’t worked yet.

Food aversions: Chicken

What I Miss: Red wine & runny eggs. Charles knows that the first few days we are back from the hospital we will be having both of these glorious things! I can’t wait!

Call on Tuesday

What I’m looking forward to: I am still seriously crossing my fingers I go into labor soon. I have my 40 week appointment tomorrow  & we are scheduling the NST {non stress test} this week to check the amniotic fluid levels & making sure baby is still comfortable. As long as everything looks good we will likely be scheduling an induction for next week {at 41 weeks} – but I really would like to start the labor process naturally, as I’ve heard an induction can prolong everything. Cross your fingers for me my body gets things moving along on it’s own!

Milestone: Getting to my due date? I’m happy to be here & to have carried Baby Brinkley full term {officially} to 40 weeks. I know he is all warm & comfortable in my baby bump but we are all really hoping he decides to come out and play sooner rather than later!

I am 39 weeks and 3 days, so I know what you mean when you say that this waiting game is a little exhausting (and slightly annoying)! I have had contractions since I was 30 weeks, so every time I feel one that hurts a little more I think that maybe I am going into labor. Obviously I have not gone into labor yet! Best of luck this next week. Hoping Baby Brinkley comes soon!

I only made it to 38 weeks, which was still pretty rough, so I feel for you! I did eat spicy Thai food the day before I went into labor. Not sure if that’s what did it, but you could try it!
