Baby Bump: 41 Weeks & Next Steps

41 Weeks

So today’s Baby Bump post is going to be a little different because as this post goes live, we are actually on our way to the hospital to be induced for labor.

Baby Brinkley has been cooking for 41 weeks {287 days – but who’s counting?} and while I have been progressing each week – 3 cm dilated / 85% effaced / 0 station as of my 40 week appointment – my OB didn’t think I would make it to week 38, or week 39…but here we are at 41 weeks and no real sign of labor. I even had a membrane sweep last week & no change!

I went in for a NST last week & another one yesterday and everything is looking ok, but my OB thinks its best that for the health of the baby & myself we should try to get things moving along via an induction. I have some mixed feelings about this as I so very much wanted to go into labor on my own, when my body was ready but I am quickly learning that it’s best to go with the flow and not get too set on a specific birth plan. Charles & I discussed our options and we think this makes the most sense for us at this time – with the health and safety of the baby being our priority.

I really wanted to make The Call to my husband at work to come home, let him know that “IT’S TIME!” and I think he’s been anxiously waiting for that call for the past few weeks as well. On the other hand, having this scheduled time that we are going into the hospital does make everything a little more organized – I was able to completely prepare the house & myself and our families for the big day, so it was definitely less chaotic! But also having this on my mind made yesterday really tough – knowing that our lives were seriously going to change in less than 24 hours is a lot to take on mentally, not to mention the fact that I still have a lot of laboring to do! Needless to say it was tough to sleep last night!

More Bump

I’ve also been doing lots of research on inductions at 41 weeks and in general and everyone’s experiences seem to be all over the place – mainly either really good or really bad. I have either read that the induction made everything go super quickly and smoothly or it took forever, and in some cases made labor longer, more painful and ended in a c-section. I’m crossing my fingers that I have a quick experience due to the fact that I already have some good progression –  3 cm dilated / 85% effaced / 0 station – and my body is already working towards laboring on it’s own, but you never know!

We are going to the hospital and as of last week my doctor and I discussed her breaking my water first to see if that brings on labor, so I am hoping that maybe things will progress on their own, but as long as the baby is happy & healthy I am open to doing whatever is necessary.

Other than waiting around this past week for any sign of labor, I have really been trying to be out and about as much as possible. I went to Adventure Aquarium with Sabrina & Charles and I hit up the Pompeii exhibit over the weekend – since we knew that we had the induction on the calendar, it was nice to really take advantage of our last weekend pre-baby.

I have also been soaking up a crazy amount of Jackson time. He knows something is up and I have just been trying to give him lots of extra attention before we come home with Baby Brinkley later this week. My parents are coming up to help with Jackson while Charles & I are at the hospital, so he will be well taken care of. I know he’s going to be a great big brother, just might take a little time for him to get used to his new little friend.

Thank you for all your kind words and support over the past 9 months – it’s been amazing sharing my journey with you and I can’t wait for the next chapter!

40 week Bump

I will likely update Instagram & Facebook with baby updates before the blog so keep an eye out there. I also have some scheduled posts going up later this week while we are recovering in the hospital, but I will be sharing baby updates as soon as we get home & settled!

Good luck! It’s a really good sign that your body has been working towards labor on its own so you’ll be much more likely to respond well to the induction. I’ll be thinking about you and can’t wait to see pics!
