Nest Learning Thermostat Review & Giveaway – #LearnAndConserve Challenge #3 – Make It Simple

I have enjoyed sharing my #LearnAndConserve journey with you over the past few weeks, I hope you have enjoyed reading my tips & tricks. Challenge #1 was all about Winterizing you Home, Challenge #2 featured my favorite NoBake Recipes and today for our 3rd & final Challenge, it’s all about keeping it simple {plus a little treat for you!}

**************************

As we brace the cold, cold winter, you may see spikes in your energy usage. To minimize the impact of the cold weather on your energy consumptions and for the final challenge we were challenged to incorporate the following simple changes into our daily life. These small changes can make a huge difference month-to-month, not only in the cold, winter months but all year long.

  1. Rotate your fans clockwise, which pushes the warm air back down.
  2. Wash your clothes in all cold water. When using the dryer, run multiple loads at a time. The heat will build up and not need as much electricity. Also, use the cool-down cycle to allow clothes to finish drying with the remaining heat in the dryer.
  3. Replace your bulbs with energy-efficient lighting
  4. Turn off lights when not in a room, not at home or at night
  5. Unplug electronics not used on a consistent basis

**************************

Another awesome way to keep things simple is with the Nest Learning Thermostat.

As part the #LearnAndConserve blogger challenges I have been participating in the past few weeks, everyone involved in the program was gifted a Nest. The Nest is a learning thermostat that gets to know your schedule, programs itself to keep your home comfortable {and energy efficient} and has a goal of saving you money on your heating & cooling bills.

Nest Learning Thermostat

This treat couldn’t have come at a more perfect time for us in our new home – it can be an expensive challenge learning to heat a new, big space {especially when you are used to only worrying about a 1 bedroom apartment!} and the Nest has been awesome at helping us regulate the temperature in our home.

Nest Settings

If you aren’t familiar with all the awesomeness that is the Nest, it’s a really great, user friendly, little device. It took Charles less than 30 minutes to install and set up – it’s as easy as plugging it in, connecting it to your wi-fi, and letting it know what your highest heating & lowest cooling preferences are, then it gets to know your schedule and adjusts accordingly.

I love how it automatically turns down to an energy-efficient temperature when we are out of the house for the day. It can sense movement around where it is installed and will turn up and down depending on when people are in the house.

NestEnergy History

Charles’ favorite part of the Nest is that it can be completely controlled via an iPhone app {it connects via wi-fi}. He can turn the temperature up or down in the house anytime, anywhere – which I think is pretty cool. You can also easily see the schedule the Nest has come up with for your home and adjust accordingly.

Nest Iphone App

So here’s the amazing news – the wonderful folks at NRG Energy, who are hosting this #LearnAndConserve blogger challenge, have offered up ONE Nest Learning Thermostat {a $250 value} AND a $25 Home Depot Gift Card {to make simple, energy efficient changes in your home} to one lucky And Her Little Dog Too reader!

I can’t say enough good things about the Nest & know you will love it too!Giveaway ends Sunday – enter below to win, Good Luck!
