In My Hospital Bag

Ok, ok. In case you didn’t already know I am ready, anxious, excited {and freaking out a little bit} to have this baby! I had a really great 38 week appointment yesterday and my Dr. told me he could be coming any day now! Woohoo! Needless to say, everyone is on high alert!

I know it took me a while to actually pack my bags for the hospital – I even reached out on Instagram for advice on what to pack {and you all gave amazing advice!} I wanted to share with you what I am bringing with me to the hospital, but it will be in 3 stages. I’m bringing a bag for the labor & delivery {which is what I am sharing with you today}, a bag for recover & the day or two we will be spending in the hospital post-birth, and a bag for the baby!

We were told during our hospital tour to only bring with us what we will need for labor at first, since there will obviously be a lot going on and I won’t need much at that point. It was so hard to pack this bag because you really never know how long L&D will be – could be a few hours, could take days! So it’s good to be prepared, at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Here is a little list of what I plan to bring to the hospital for Labor & Delivery – Feel free to let me know if there is anything I may have missed!

What's In My Labor Bag

1- I posted about this a few weeks back and I am in love with my Beginnings Baby Book  – It is currently holding all our hospital paperwork, as well as my updated vaccinations & information on my latest Rhogam shot {I’m a negative blood type} I am also bringing my Travel Case  which is currently home to a bunch of toiletries & other items – eye mask,  tick tacks, gum, headphones, headbands, Tums, dry shampoo..Am I missing anything?

2- Snacks -> I was advised to pack snacks, since you never know how long labor will actually take. I am bringing my favorite gatorade along with my favorite energy bars and some Shot Bloks. Word on the street is the gatorade & shot bloks can be lifesavers when you haven’t eaten in a while & the bars are for post delivery, incase its in the middle of the night and the kitchen isn’t open. Any other snack suggestions?

3- I am bringing with me an old pair of flip flops – public showers gross me out and if I am out and about walking around I will totally rock these bad boys with some socks for warmth.

4- A highly recommended to-pack item were socks! These Fuzzy socks  I got for $1.00 on Black Friday and I plan to throw away {I’m bringing 3 pairs} if they get seriously gross {which i’ve heard they will}

5- Another must pack item on everyone’s list is a really good lip balm. Apparently all the breathing drys out your lips & this is my favorite lip balm so hopefully it will bring me some joy while I’m panting away.

6- Also in my bag is my Point and Shoot camera as well as my DLSR – can you really have too many cameras in the delivery room?! I think not! Not sure how many pictures will actually be taken during the labor process but it’s better to have them than to not have them.

7- I’m also bringing my Orla Kiely Beauty Organizer, which I am obsessed with. This is holding my toothbrush, hair ties, lotions, some make-up & other personal toiletries I may want/need. It’s more for post-baby & the rest of our stay in the hospital but you never know when you may need something!

– Also the bag I am using is a weekender bag I got in a gift set over the holidays when I purchased a new blow dryer. It’s an awesome size & I am sort of obsessed with it!

    I brought portable speakers for my iPod – I really enjoyed listening to music more than I imagined. I didn’t use my headphones at all. Seems like you’ve packed a great, efficient bag!

    My favorite item I brought for labor was my heating pad (this is the one I had http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WHIPI0/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I did not go the epidural route and this was really nice to put on different areas during labor. My husband or sister would go warm it up in the microwave for me. Another favorite was a water bottle with a straw for labor. That way I could actually drinking without spilling if a contraction came on!

    Be sure to pack your phone chargers & have a playlist. We also brought peppermint oil for aromatherapy (you can just pour some into a glass or on a tissue in whatever aroma you like)
