Kennett Square Mushroom Festival 2014

This weekend we headed out to Kennett Square to visit my brother, Michael & his fiancé, Joan at their new house & to check out the local sights, including the Mushroom Festival!

Fun Fact: Did you know that Kennett Square, PA is the mushroom capital of the world?

The mushroom festival is a pretty big deal in the area – it features culinary events, mushroom growing exhibits, farm tours, children’s entertainment, and nearly 200 vendors with attendance calculated at up to 100,000 guests. Kennett Square is home to more mushroom growing operations concentrated in the Southern Chester County area than any other area in the United States. Over 65 percent of the mushrooms consumed in the United States are grown here {about an hour outside Philadelphia!}

Charles, Brook and I were pumped to explore the area and check out the festival over the weekend. Unfortunately bad weather had other plans and we only got to be inside the festival for about 45 minutes or so – long enough to walk through half of the vendors and grab some tacos {for me} and a wild mushroom burger for Charles. I had big plans for more eating & taste testing throughout the day but a big storm cloud with lots of thunder and lightening forced us to head back home. If it was just us, we would have hung out and waiting for the storm to pass, but little man was with us and obviously safety with a baby is #1.

I did manage to get some photos of the festival before we had to head for cover & I wanted to share some of those pictures with you today!

    Fun fact! I had no idea that’s where all of the mushrooms came from! Too bad the weather didn’t hold up, it looks like a fun way to spend the day.

    What a bummer that it got rained out! We were thinking about going but ended up stuck at home waiting for furniture to be delivered. I’m using this list as a guide for festivals this Fall, although there are so many I’m finding it hard to choose!
