Baby Hacks

 I posted yesterday on Instagram about one of my favorite baby hacks – tips or tricks to making mom life {and dad life!} a little easier. So I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my go-to baby hacks that I use all the time with Brooks. Most of these are nap/sleeping specific, but I figure that’s where most of the trouble lies with new babies – and I’ve been doing lots of research the past 9 months, so here are a few of my baby hacks {please share your favorite too!}

Baby Hack – I’ve been really trying to get little man on a more consistent nap schedule – he’s still taking 2 a day but knowing more of when to expect them can help me be able to plan our days a little better and I think it will be good for him in the long run too. I’ve been strapping him up in my favorite baby carrier the same time every morning & afternoon for his two naps – 8:30 & 1:30, respectively. I’ve been doing this all week and you can see he’s slowly getting it – he’s rubbing his eyes right around the same time for his naps & he’s usually down within 10 minutes. nap hack

I want to get to the point where I can plop him down in his crib {lovingly, of course!} at his specific nap time so he can put himself down. He does this at night for bedtime {at 7pm!} which is pretty awesome. So I know he can put himself to sleep at night, it’s just naps which are a little trickier for him, not sure why.

Baby Hack – Natural Light is your FRIEND! I used this trick a bit more when he was littler, but still go back to it every now and then. When I am rocking him for a nap, I try to hang out by a open door or window, so the natural light creeps in. The light causes him to naturally close his eyes, which helps with the whole going to sleep process. It works pretty well!

Baby Hack – All about the Appliances! Much like the natural light trick above, the white noise of a dishwasher or washer/dryer machine has helped get little man to sleep as well. If one of those appliances is running when it’s time for a nap, sometimes we hang out around them & let the hum of the machine lull little man to sleep.

Baby Hack – In terms of car rides, I usually try to plan any longer trips around his nap schedule naturally, in the hopes that he will sleep en route. I know he doesn’t get as good of a sleep in the carseat or in a stroller now, so I make it a point to have at least one good nap in the crib each day, usually the first one. But on car rides I always pop the back windows down just a tad, which creates some awesome white noise that Brooks clearly enjoys. Paired with the open road on the highway, barring any honking or mack trucks flying by, we are usually golden.

Baby Hack – My one little teething trick is putting a little applesauce in a wash cloth, folding it and freezing it and whenever Brooks is having any teething issues, I give him that to gnaw on. It worked really well in the summer on hot days & it was a nice little treat. Not sure how much Brooks would like it now that it’s colder out, but I think he’s got some teeth coming in again soon so we shall see!

Now it’s your turn to share:
