16 Months with Brooks

For a look back at previous Brooks updates, check out the baby page – which I recently changed the name to Brooks, since he’s not the only baby in these parts anymore!

Growth – No doctors appointment to check in on in terms of weight/height and all that jazz but by judging Brooks’ clothes and shoes, little man is growing! Judging by how heavy he feels, I’d say he’s still around the 23 lb. mark. He still is in some 12 month clothes but he’s most comfortable in size 18 months. This has been turning into such a fun summer season with little man because he is on the move and loves to be outside! So different from last summer and so much more fun!

Nursing  – We stopped nursing at 13 months! For more of an update & my recap check out my On Stopping Nursing post!

Baby Led Weaning – Our BLW update this month is still sort of all over the place, much like it is every month. I’ve been having luck making a bigger meal for B at the beginning of the week & having him enjoy it for a few different meals throughout the week. Takes a little bit of pressure off of me in terms of making food for him on the fly – plus it ends up being something Charles & I enjoy too {like quiche!} I’ve found that some days B is hungrier than others, just like everyone else, and I need to keep myself in check not freaking out about his food intake. Just like everyone, when he’s hungry he will let me know & eat.

Teething – Brooks is still drooling a lot, but other than that, he’s been pretty good. He likes chewing on crackers to take the edge off but other than that he’s been pretty good. I have no idea how many teeth he has but there are a bunch in the back of his mouth, but he won’t sit still long enough for me to look!

Sleeping – I’m so happy to report that sleeping has been AMAZING! Little man goes down around 7 and I usually don’t go in and get him until 7:45. This past weekend he slept in until 8:15! It was AHHHHmazing! He had a little hiccup when we were at the beach for Memorial Day & he was in his pack n’ play – there he would get up around 6:30 or so, but other than that his crib is amazing and I’m so happy to be getting some consistent sleep of my own at this point too! I wish I could bottle it up and save it for those first few newborn months!

Naps – Naps are a little all over the place. When we travelled to the beach, and he was getting up early & having a jam packed day running around the beach and the pool – he wouldn’t nap. He would go a few days with no nap at all. A few times I put him down around 6 because he was a hot mess later in the day. But now that we are back home he’s back into the 2 naps a day routine. He takes his morning nap around 9:30/10 am pretty consistently and recently I’ve been able to get him back down sometime between 2/3 for another 45 min – 1 hour. I’ll take it however long it is because on days where he doesn’t nap for long, he’s not happy at the end of the day, which I get because he’s exhausted. But we are in a good schedule now for sure {fingers crossed it stays that way!}

kick

Jackson & Brooks – I gave a little update on Jackson + Brooks a while back but these two are still kicking along together. Brooks enjoys “walking” Jackson when we are out and about and he’s constantly running up to J to pet him and love on him. Jackson tolerates it and doesn’t seem to really notice the little man hanging all over him – going to be interested when he is outnumbered!

Sign Language – I haven’t added any new ones to our collection lately. We use All Done, More, & Please all day everyday. What else do I need to teach him?

Words – hi, bye, no way, no, water, dog, balloon, bubbles, mommy, dada, pops, mimi, up, please, more, Joe, toes, shoes, keys, Jacks, car, bus, truck…

Loves – Being outside! Little man loves to roam, wander and explore – and I love when we are out of the house! This week has been rough for me because it’s been yucky & rainy & cold – I love when we can explore different parks and soak up the sun together. Tires us both out but we love it!

family

Loves {cont’d} – We have memberships to everyplace possible here in Philly – and we’ve gotten out moneys worth from all of them. Brooks loves the zoo, aquarium, please touch, nest, franklin institute – he loves being out and about surrounded by people!

    I would love to see a day of eats for Brooks. I have an almost one year old and I look to others for food idea inspirations!

    Love these updates! He is so photogenic! Does he know to look at the camera when you’re taking a picture or is it more like taking pictures of my daughter… just luck of the draw?

      Kay – we usually have to throw a party behind the camera to get him to look! Ha!
