8 Months Pregnant with Baby #2

How far along am I: I am officially in my 9th month of this pregnancy – as per my favorite little calendar – and I am ready to go! It’s weird to tell people that I’m 9 months pregnant, but I still have 4 weeks or so to go. I don’t enjoy this whole pregnancy is secretly 10 months thing! I also sort of feel like I am rushing these last few weeks in my mind, already wishing for them to be over, and I know I should be relishing in the last few weeks of sleep without a newborn + nursing {even though I’m not getting much sleep because I have to pee + am uncomfortable} but I just feel ready!

How I’m feeling: Aside from feeling ready, as mentioned above, I’m feeling pretty blah. I’m tired, my feet are swollen, my back kills constantly and my energy is lacking. I can’t really get comfortable to relax and there’s always just a million things I feel like I should be doing – even though the majority of the baby prep is complete, the to-do list is never ending and it’s overwhelming. I also am getting a little emotional about this being our last few weeks with Brooks as a only child. I am so excited for him to have a sibling, I wouldn’t want it any other way, but it’s just going to be different.

Total weight gain: As per my appointment yesterday, I’m up 20 lbs. – Baby should be gaining an oz. a day from here on out, which can explain my extra hunger.

How big is baby: Little man is around 18 inches long and tips the scale around 5 pounds – about the size of a honeydew melon – Basic physical development for baby is now complete – kidneys are developed, liver is complete & lungs are good to go too –  now baby’s main job is to pack on the pounds to prepare for birth.

Maternity clothes: Ugh. Nothing fits, even my maternity shirts hang weirdly short and show my belly – which is awkward. I’m  also bored with my current clothes and ready to throw all my maternity clothes out the window. I feel like I wear the same damn thing everyday. BUT that being said, I’m really not looking forward to wearing a nursing tank for the next year either – hate those things too!

Stretch marks: From what I can see of the bottom of my belly, it looks like there might be a few happening here and there, sad to say. I can’t really tell, because I can’t really see. Been lotioning up like a champ.

On Sleep: Ugh again. Brooks has been doing really well, but I just toss and turn most of the night. Feels so good at the end of the day to hope in bed and put my feet up but then I can’t get comfortable and there is really no good way to roll over. My back has been hurting a lot. I wish I could just nap and lay around all day to rest up, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

Baby Movement: Little man {feels weird to call someone other than Brooks little man!} moves like a champ! He’s constantly kicking and stretching and this late in the game, it hurts! Every strong movement stops me in my tracks and I have to give a little pregnant pause for the punch to pass. It’s fun to feel him moving and grooving in there, and weird for other people to see it happening, but it doesn’t always feel awesome!

Food cravings: Everything and nothing. I am hungry all the time, but not motivated to make much or go get something specific. Also it’s been too hot to eat – does that make sense? I have been enjoying Starbursts in bed at night {random} and E.L. Fudge cookies.

Food aversions: Depends on my heartburn status.

Belly button in or out: Been flat for weeks {months?} now!

What I miss: Sleeping comfortably! I can’t wait to sleep on my stomach again and not almost put my back out when I go to roll over at night or get out of bed to pee!

Best moment this Month: Making the big nursery/big boy room switch. We haven’t switched Brooks yet, still waiting on a few minor details, but I plan to put him in his new room to nap soon, once we hook up the baby monitor in there. Other than that all baby clothes are in the nursery and Brooks’ things are in his new room. I can’t wait to share photos, once I get a few things up on the wall, then it’s all set!

What I’m looking forward to: Meeting this new little guy!

Milestone: I think surviving the heat the past few weeks has been a big win for me! Also the fact that my parents are gone {to Africa!} these last few weeks of my pregnancy is going to be a big milestone for me to overcome for next month – I’m wishing I had an extra set of hands around these days! Especially as I’m not feeling so great – these next few weeks are going to be rough, but we will power through!

    You look so great!

Also — I remember those days of trying to roll over in bed to get comfy and almost throw your back out. I would literally carry my belly over with me when I would roll — only to get uncomfortable again in like 10 minutes. Ugh. Only a few weeks left, sister! Try to enjoy the things you’ll soon miss (rolling over in bed, not one of them)! 🙂

I agree with Barb that the summer has been hot but milder than usual. I can’t believe you’re having your second! It feels like yesterday when I met you and you were newly pregnant. Congrats! !

I can relate to pregnancy clothes not fitting right! Right where you are with my second, my belly would come out from the bottom of my shirts. I was SOOOO ready. LOL The end is in sight – YOU’VE GOT THIS! 🙂

    You will be done soon!
I hate nursing camis too, but then I found Undercover Mama, and that changed. I still wear them when I’m not nursing!

I love your honesty! I am right there with you at 37 weeks, I have an 18mo, it’s over 100 degrees and frankly…the magic is gone. But you’re right; we still have to relish these last few weeks of being able to be without a baby after 7pm ish. I haven’t quite figured out how this whole two under two thing is going to pan out but it’s still exciting!
