Growing up in a family who had a dog, I can’t really imagine not having a dog in our family.

When I was a little girl, I begged my parents for a dog of our own. One summer, my brother and I were spending a week at my grandmas. I remember sitting on her porch, watching for my parents to come around the corner in the car. When suddenly, they came around the corner, on foot, with a puppy!

It was the best surprise ever and I’ll remember that moment for the rest of my life.

When I graduated college, the first thing I wanted to do {beside get a job!} was to get a dog! I was so excited to be out on my own and to add that little piece of the puzzle back into my life.

I can’t believe that was 9 years ago – Jackson will be 10 years old next August! So crazy!

It’s even crazier to think that at Jackson’s last vet visit, they gave me all this paperwork on information I should have because I own a senior dog! I find that hard to believe because Jackson still has so much pep in his step. And he and Brooks are just now getting to the point where they chase around after each other – it’s so much fun to watch and I’m pretty sure it’s crazy fun for them too.

I love having my kids be able to grow up with a dog. I think it’s good for their mind, body and spirit. I can already see Brooks growing up as a fellow animal lover. For a while, any dog he saw was a “Jackson” and lots of animals at the zoo were all “dogs” to him too! I just love the fact that when we walk down the street and he sees another dog, he smiles and waves and isn’t afraid, no matter how big the dog! Makes me proud!

I’m excited for my little ones to continue to grow with Jackson by their side.
