The second time around pretty much everything about my breastfeeding story has been different.
With Brooks, it was a real struggle, ESPECIALLY in the beginning. I was in pain, it was uncomfortable and it physically and emotionally drained me. Not sure if the majority of that was being a first time new mom or what – but that’s the truth.
With Graham, nursing has been second nature. So easy, enjoyable and fun. Not sure if that goes with the territory of baby #2 having to be more flexible, the fact that I just came off nursing my first baby pretty recently or everything with Graham is a better fit – but that’s also the truth.
I’m so glad I’ve been able to nurse both my boys – Brooks for 14 months and with Graham we are still going strong {and starting solids too!} but it’s been a blessing and has created a special bond with both of my littles.
In terms of pumping -> with Brooks I started at about the 4-6 week mark {can’t remember exactly when} but I pumped a bottle for Charles to give Brooks at night so I could go to bed early and get a bit of a longer stretch of sleep. It worked out nicely because I would go to bed around 7/8 after a feeding session, B would go to bed for a few hours and Charles would feed him when he woke up around 11 before they both went to bed. Worked out great for us and I’m thankful I was able to catch up on a little sleep during that period.
With Graham I started pumping around 4 months when he started sleeping through the night <insert mom high five here!> Pumping requires time <to do it, clean + prep parts> and that’s not something I always have in the morning with both the boys – which is why I put off pumping for so long. BUT since Graham is consistently sleeping 12+ hours, when I wake up in the mornings I’m pretty much about to burst from both sides! So I usually go down, change G, feed him and then pump the opposite side. I’ve been getting 5-6 oz. from this for my freezer stash which has been awesome because I’ve been able to build up a nice sized milk supply for when Charles and I head out on a little spring break trip soon!
My new pumping sessions started up around the time that I was able to try out the new Philips Avent Double Electric Comfort Breast Pump! It was pretty amazing timing because the pump I used with Brooks 2+ years ago was able to kick the bucket! I love it when that happens because I seriously needed a new one.
This pump is awesome because it’s such a great size – it’s so much more compact than what I was previous using. This little carrier bag comes with it and holds everything perfectly – it’s going to be awesome + easy to take this on our upcoming trip when we are away from the babes for a few days!
Check out the size of the pump – fits into my hands! So compact and lightweight too!
I think aside from the size of it all, my second favorite thing about this pump is the massage cushion that goes around the tube – so comfortable during pumping. The Innovative massaging petals in the soft breast cushion mimic baby’s natural sucking to help stimulate letdown and milk flow – it really works and totally makes sense!
The Philips Avent Double Electric Comfort Breast Pump is also different because it has a unique design that allows you to sit upright and express milk more comfortably. It eliminates the need to lean forward which results in discomfort – I hate having to do that, so this has been awesome!
Best of all enter to win a Phillips Avent Double Breast Pump! You will be entered to win 1 of 20! Giveaway is open to CAN & US (No Quebec, Alaska or Hawaii) Good Luck!
