Garmin babyCam

A few weeks ago I shared how life is going with two littles rear facing in carseats at 8 months + {almost} 2.5 years old. Today I’m excited to share with you my experience using the Garmin babyCam for the past 3+ weeks, and how it’s made life a little easier with the babes in the backseat.

oh hey

Seriously, how cool is it that with a touch of a button, I can see what Graham is doing in the carseat on my Garmin Drive {both products I was sent to try out for review} I have been using it for a while now and it’s been a blast – especially on long car rides to the beach, to see what’s going on back there!

The babyCam is a in-vehicle video baby monitor that works with your dedicated Garmin navigation device – it attaches to the headrest in front of the carseat you want to watch. It’s wireless, takes AA batteries and is so easy to install.

My car doesn’t have a navigation device, so being hooked up with the Garmin Drive was a real treat. Plus I’ve LOVED being able see if Graham is napping or not when we are on the go. And he’s just cute to watch in general – that’s the only distracting part! Ha!

Before this I had a mirror in the back and I had to keep an eye on the littles using my rearview mirror or twisting and turning around in my seat to see what was going on. Now I just tap a button and I can easily see what’s going on.

I also love being able to easily see the speed limit in the area, how fast I’m going, the arrival time to my destination and it’s just a real treat not having to use my phone {or my data plan} to see where I’m going when driving somewhere new. It’s also cool because it seamlessly switch display from navigation mode to babyCam view, so when you tap the babyCam, it shows what’s up in the backseat for a few seconds and then goes back to your route automatically.

Side Note: All photos were taken as a passenger or when the car was stopped. #safetyfirst

two naps

During our recent beach trip we were also able to find out that the babyCam can also really keep track of TWO sleeping littles in the backseat. If you turn it at an angle {and remove the bunny in the picture} You can really keep track of two rear facing littles in one camera view. Pretty amazing if they are both sleeping.

Not so amazing if they are both screaming.

A few more fun facts about my new favorite gadget – it can be installed to view a child in a rear-facing or front-facing car seat {not sure if you would have as much use for it forward facing}, but it’s nice not to have to turn around and take your eyes off the road! And as an added perk, upon arrival at the destination, a message will prompt driver to check for passengers before exiting the vehicle, so you don’t forget about your sleeping little in the back!

Wow – what a great product to have for parents. I love the idea that you can always keep your eyes on the road, so much safer for all! Garmin should sell this product to car dealers and have it be an option for new cars. Absolutely love it and wish I had that gadget when I was a new mom!
