Coffee in the City: My Top 10 Favorite Coffee House Spots in Philadelphia

This mama loves a good cup of coffee.

And as a city dweller the past 6+ years, I’ve dedicated lots of time to doing my research to find the perfect cup in the perfect spot. Not all coffees are created equal.

And not all coffee shops are worthy of a cute post on the IG. Today, I wanted to round up a few of my favorites.

“Coffee: a warm and delicious alternative to hating everything forever.”

SO. TRUE.

I always love checking out different coffee spots whenever I am out and about. Coffee houses are a great way to get to know a different neighborhood or area of the city – just by grabbing a coffee and people watching for a bit!

As a Fairmount local – which is right by the Philadelphia Art Museum, if you aren’t familiar with the area – I have a few go-tos that I frequent.

// OCF Coffee House / Brown Street Coffee / Lucky Goat Coffee House /

These are my top three where I live.

Pro-Tip: If you go to Brown Street Coffeehouse, get the Bahnmi, its incredible.

If I’m not in Fairmount for my coffee, more often than not I find myself in the Rittenhouse Square area – it’s an easy walk from Fairmount and is jam packed with all the stores for any errands I need to run.

It’s also packed with lots of great coffee spots!

My favorite in the area would be La Columbe Coffee Roasters – because it has a super cool vibe and their coffee is delicious. I love their Fishtown location the MOST, but Rittenhouse is great too.

Other Rittenhouse Coffee favorites:

// Peddler Coffee / Rival Bros Coffee Bar / Elixr Coffee Roasters

All are super unique + great spots to stop in the city.

In the Washington Square West location, I just HAD to mention the Chapterhouse Cafe & Gallery. It’s like a house that you walk into to enjoy your coffee, completely lined with lots of artwork throughout the home. Cool little spot to check out for sure!

Also sort of in that area of the city-ish, another favorite spot would have to be Shot Tower Coffee – industrial chic, I’m in love. And I can’t forget about Greenstreet Coffee, which is close by, highly recommend!

Obviously there are Starbucks on every other corner in the city, which I do hit up from time to time, but if I’m going to more of a chain coffee spot, my preference would 100% be Saxby’s. They make my favorite latte with marshmallow and it’s amazing.

I want one right now actually!

So obviously I haven’t been to ALL of the coffee spots in Philadelphia – but I’d love to check out more! These are just a few of my favorite spots that I’ve frequented over the years that I love to go back to!

If you have any other coffee house spot suggestions, send them over! I’d love to ado this list and explore more of Philly!

Such a great post! I really need to expand my repertoire of coffee shops. I tend to stick to Starbucks because I live in a small town in the midwest and it is probably the most consistently good coffee shop we have. I would LOVE to travel to Philadelphia soon to try out these local spots. Maybe you could do a series of favorite local restaurants, bakeries, donut shops, grocery store, etc….
