DIY Lego Table for under $30 with No Tools!

Today I’m back to toot my own horn about a fun little DIY I took on a few days before Christmas.

Because who DOESN’T want a little Do It Yourself project the week of Christmas??!!

Yes, I know I’m crazy.

But I was totally inspired by our recent trip to Hershey two weeks before Christmas, when the boys spent a large portion of their time at the Water Works, inside the play area at this LEGO table.

Check out that post here -> What to do on a rainy weekend in Hershey, PA – all the kid-friendly activities at the Hershey Lodge, Sweet Lights & More.

So I watched my two little boys creating and enjoying imaginative play with these LEGOS at this LEGO table for a LOOOOONG time. They played happily, no fighting {#bless!} and they were having a grand ol’ time.

And I start thinking to myself – “Why the hell can’t they play like this at home???”

So I take a closer look, and they are building all their creations into the table.

If that’s all it takes, I’m all in!

I did a little research and all the LEGO tables were way too big, bulky {or ugly!} and pricey for our needs. And plus, you never know how much something will be played with once its actually in your home.

Moms, you know what I’m talking about.

Not wanting to put too much money {or effort} into something I didn’t know how long it would last, I stalked the internet to create my own version – and I was totally inspired.

Basically, all you need is this – LEGO baseplates.

Done.

You can get any sort of color combination you like, but I enjoy grey {its my favorite color} and I think it looks way nicer in any room this little table ends up. Just make sure when you add the baseplates you have LEGOS connecting the plates so you know they line up correctly!

I put the baseplates on an old IKEA LACK table we had that was in our basement. The top of it was sort of warped, so we weren’t using it anymore, but it would be perfect for this occasion! These base plates were peel and stick so it was super easy and quick to apply!

If you are like me, I’m assuming you have an old little table lying around, but if you don’t, head on over to IKEA. They will hook you up.

I also wanted to add a little storage attached to the table for the LEGOs to live in, so I picked up these stainless steel handles {a two pack!} and put them on two sides of the tables. I also found these little containers {for 0.79! EACH!} and got 4 of them so we can add more LEGOs as we go!

I attached it with some hardcore super glue. It might not be the cutest solution, but it was super easy and it works. I purchased separate handles to drill into the table, but I didn’t think it would hold up to the drilling {#cheaptable} but the glue has been great so far, and if anything comes apart, I’ll re-glue!

Here’s how it looked on Christmas morning when the boys came down the stairs and saw their new table.

Another reason I really liked this idea is because Brooks had a LEGO Advent Calendar this year – this one, which I HIGHLY recommend, it was amazing to see him build something on his own everyday!

So on the LEGO table I put all his creations he worked on over the past month, they were all set up ready to play on Christmas morning! And wouldn’t you know it, the boys went STRAIGHT for it!

Worth Every Penny.

And it wasn’t even that many penny’s! Double Win!

I’m super happy with how it turned out, and it was a great way to give new life to an old table we weren’t using anymore! The boys have LOVED playing with it and we’ve since moved it into their room – whenever they are up there, they are ALWAYS playing with the table.

Its nice to see something I made for them, as easy as it was, be enjoyed. I can’t wait to see what fun things they create on this table!

Thanks for stopping by to see my version of this IKEA/LEGO hack! I’d love to know if you’ve created or have any fun DIY projects on your agenda! Let me know what you are working on!
