Road Trip: A Weekend in Alexandria, VA – All Around Del Ray, Brunch at Junction Bakery & Bistro, The Pit at Beverly Park, Margaritas at Taqueria El Poblano and Port City Brewing’s Best Beers

This past weekend we all took a little road trip down to DC to visit my sister-in-law who just had a sweet little babe.

The boys were super excited to meet their new cousin and spend some time in a different city with Aunt Kiki + Uncle Dude.

Meet Baby Maxwell.

I literally wanted to take him home with me. He’s the sweetest.

Aside from all the baby snuggles, we got to explore a new part of town – Alexandria {specifically Del Ray} Virginia!

I’m originally from the Northern Virginia area – I was actually born in the Alexandria Hospital there. So I’m somewhat familiar with the area – but it was a treat to eat, drink and explore this cute little town with my family.

Our first stop: Junction Bakery & Bistro.

Oh my goodness, if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, on the outskirts of DC {or to any of my fellow Northern Virginia friends!} you NEED to check this place out. It was a total delight.

Quinoa Sprouted Bowl – Soft Poached Egg / Quinoa / In House Sprouted Beans & Lentil Medley / Radish / Garlic Spread / Hummus / Alfalfa Sprouts / Tomato / Avocado / Citrus EVOO

Also, a nice glass of rose on a Friday never hurt anyone either! It paired beautifully and was light, refreshing and delicious.

Another place we spent a lot of time at during the weekend that is definitely worth noting – The Pit at Beverly Park. Again, for anyone local or local-ish to that area you MUST visit this park. It’s amazing for kids – a great playground, a massive loop for bikes and scooters, a zip line and so many outside toys all lined up. And the best part, its down in a pit – away from the road or any cars.

Loved it!

Here’s Brooks in action coming down into the Pit. The boys had an absolute blast!

During our time in Del Ray we also got to hit up a super yummy Mexican restaurant – Taqueria El Poblano – We basically ordered one of every taco to share and they were all so good. They have a few locations in Arlington + Alexandria and I would definitely recommend a visit!

Not to mention they were voted Best Margarita 4 Years in a row! Boom!

It’s worth noting that after all the fun in The Pit before lunch and eating all the tacos at lunch, Graham totally passed out at the restaurant – and this kid doesn’t nap.

Passed out.

I love it!

Another little gem in the area – Port City Brewing!

I love the “We put the ALE in ALExandria” – Ha!

The beers were delicious and they had corn hole and other little games for the kiddos to enjoy while the adults got to relax.

Also – I’d like to highly recommend this on-the-go Monster Making kit. It was a big hit, kept the kids entertained at multiple stops and I love the little tote it came with. So perfect for the kids to make their own restaurant entertainment bags!

The rest of the weekend was spent with more baby snuggles…

Lots of good food..

Entertaining letter boards..

And even more baby snuggles.

It was a great weekend away – we all had so much fun and it was nice to explore a new town! Thanks so much to Kate + Alex for having us and being able to spend some time with Baby Max was a treat! We can’t wait to come back again and visit soon.

Now I’d LOVE to hear from you – where’s the last place you took a road trip? Please share!

You’re making me miss my HOME! When I was first married we lived really close to Del Ray, but at that time it wasn’t the cool place that it has become in the last few years! Glad you had a fantastic time with your family and got to meet baby Maxwell. I’m looking forward to meeting him one day too!
