I wanted to share with the blog world some fabulous news about my NYC BFF. I have referred to her as Kate Monster (a reference from Avenue Q) on my blog in the past for privacy issues, but since her name is all over the Nike website, I figured it was ok to reveal her name and her story here.
Aileen and I go way back. Not really wayyyyy back, but we met in college at Villanova. She is older than me, but in the grade below me. (figure THAT one out) She is actually my Little Sister in our Greek family at Villanova – we were both rockin’ members of Tridelta.
I want to share some of the many fabulous times Aileen and I have had as friends before I share with you her story. We have done and seen so many great things together. Every time we hang out I know its going to be a great adventure!
Here we are at the beginning of our friendship at one of our many sorority functions (I feel like we look so young!)
We have done tons of sightseeing together, specifically lots of exploring in NYC. She is my little tour guide whenever I come into the city, always finding new and fabulous things for us to try!
We even have a yearly ritual of Christmas in NYC. We go see a show, do some shopping and have lots of Holiday Cheer together! I look forward to our Christmas weekend every year.
Don’t we look like a couple in love here?? haha. I love it!
Last year was our first Halloween together, but boy was it a good one. Check out Dorothy and Rainbow Brite:
Aileen and I have had many fabulous times in NYC, PA, DC, NJ, all over the place. Whether we are down the shore or in the city there is always something new and fun to do. I wanted to take the time right now to give credit to Aileen for introducing me to one important thing:
Aileen is the person who got me into running. She got me excited about running. She is the person who got me hooked on actually running races!
I remember visiting Aileen and she would always be signed up for some race, whether it be in Avalon or NYC. I started doing a race here and there with her and it all just clicked for me. I started to love it. I started planning trips to visit Aileen around certain races so we could run together.
She is my original running buddy.
We always call each other to chat about upcoming runs, race fears or running issues. Whenever I have a new PR or PDR she is the person I call. She has been running a lot longer than I have, so I always turn to her for advice on form and time and other tricks. She always has something new to share up her sleeve.
Even though we rarely get to actually run together, because we live so far apart, I still think of Aileen as my running buddy.
Aileen is a part of the NIKE Running Club in Manhattan and she was recently featured on the NIKE website to talk about her upcoming Marathon. Aileen is running her first even Marathon in the NYC Marathon coming up in a few short weeks. I couldn’t be more proud of her and her accomplishment.
I can’t wait to come up to NYC and cheer her on for her big day!
Check out her story here. Love you Aileen!!
