Testing the Tri Course Bike Ride

Yesterday Kate and I decided to go on a little test run of our bike route for the big triathlon on Sunday! The route consists of 2 loops of a 7.75 mile route through the Fairmount Park area.

If you want to check out the official bike route – check here.

We started off by Falls Bridge and did the beginning of the route a little backwards, but we just wanted to check out the course.

I must report that there ARE a few killer hills. Not sure how this bad boy is going to feel after that swim and a few miles on the bike!

race 002

Kate and I powered up it like rock stars.

race 001

We then made  a few turns and ended up by Strawberry Mansion.

  race 003

I have lived a few miles from this for the past year and I have never been over in this area! It was cool to ride by.

race 004

The one main difference between our little test run and the actual triathlon on Sunday is that the roads will be closed.

Yesterday they were not.

Dodging cars and trying to figure out where we were going was not the easiest, but we made do!

race 005

The route was pretty scenic and lovely. We passed by some historic sites and parks. It will definitely keep me entertained on Sunday while I try to focus on putting the pedal to the metal!

At this point in the course we got a little lost. We saw most of the route and I couldn’t figure out where the next turn was from the directions I had so we decided to head down to Kelly Drive.

race 011

But not before we took a few snap shots of the city in the background!

race 010

And us looking hardcore on our bikes!

  race 012

Are we serious bikers, or what??

race 014 race 015

After heading down to Kelly Drive we decided to pass by the Art Museum

race 016

And then added some faster miles on our journey by checking out the Schuylkill Banks on our bikes.

race 017

Then we made the executive decision to head on over and check out where we would be diving in the water for the swim portion.

race 019

We are not 100% sure of the exact start position, but we think it is going to be in this vicinity (minus the geese)

race 020

The water wasn’t looking too scary today.

race 021

Hopefully it will be this lovely on Sunday!

 race 022

I am the most nervous for the swimming portion. I used to swim on the swim team back in the day, but I have never done a swimming competition in a river like this.

It makes me nervous, but hopefully I can power through!

You can check out the swimming map here.

1/2 mile swim on the Schuylkill! I’m coming after you!

 race 026 race 027race 028

We think the race is starting around here on Sunday, so if you are in the area, come by and route for us!

race 029

After our big bike ride we decided to do some serious carb loading!

race 034

We headed over to the Cactus Bar in Manayunk and put up a cheers to our upcoming race together!

 race 035

Chips and salsa were also involved!

It has been a while since I have had a giveaway on the blog, so I have a fun one for you tonight.  This is a little different from my other giveaways because I was supposed to review it on the blog, but am unable too. I received this package a few weeks ago from MyBlogSpark with plans on doing a dinner post/giveaway. I put the frozen Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli in the freezer and went on my merry way. When I went to retrieve it to do my post last week, it was gone. I asked fiancé about it and he said he ate it for dinner one night when I wasn’t home.

Fiancé blog fail.

Usually I put stuff I am planning on reviewing or posting about in a ‘hand’s off’ area in the pantry. Fiancé knows its stuff for the blog and he lets me do my thing with the products before consuming. I guess I didn’t even think about putting a note with my Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli  so it was fair game.

So I didn’t get to enjoy this lovely meal, but my readers get a chance too win one for yourself!

wanchai b&b_final

I was sent the new Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli frozen entrée before it is widely available in-store and one lucky winner will get to try it too. Winner of this giveaway will receive a prize pack , which includes one VIP coupon of a Wanchai Ferry frozen entrée  and two tea sets as well!

Hubby and I love Chinese food but try not to eat it out as much because of the sodium. This would be a great way to have the flavor in a healthy way.

    I voted!

I hope the tri is as much fun as training with you has been! I feel slightly less anxiety after seeing some of the course. I hear that Wanchai is fabulous frozen food!!

Your bike course sounds and looks scenic, the river looked calm, hopefully you can enter there and not have to jump in and get trampled! I'm rooting for you and Kate on Sunday and can't wait to cheer you both on – stay safe and healthy!

I'd love to win this meal! My husband plays softball two nights per week after work, so I'm always looking for quick, healthy meal options that don't involve a drive-thru.

I'd love to try the Wanchai Ferry meal! It'd be great to have a nice Chinese dinner at home, instead of going out and spending all that money!

How are the road tires working? I have a hybrid with mountain bike tires and have been thinking about going to the bike shop to talk to them about switching the tires. I have a metric century coming up in 9 days and am curious if it would make a difference in my speed.

I really love chinese food but I rarely get a chance to go out for it~it would be a real treat to have it at home ready to prepare when you get that "taste" for it=)
