Chicago Marathon in my Rear View Mirror, NYC Marathon on the Horizon

Good morning! I am currently running the New York Marathon this morning! My start time is at 9:40 am – I am in the Green Corral, Wave 1 – Bib Number 20035.

If you are new to the blog, you might not know that I recently ran my first marathon in Chicago a mere 3 weeks ago.

I had an amazing experience during my first marathon and am very excited to be running the streets of New York City today.

If you would like to know how I came to be running 2 marathons in one month – check out this post – it explains the method for my madness.

Since this is not my first NYC race I wanted to share with you some of my New York City racing experiences.

My first NY race experience was in February 2009 in the Al Gordon Snowflake 5k. I finished that race in 27:40 with an 8:55 pace. I was pretty proud of this time as I had just started running.

That same August I ran the NYC Half Marathon for the first time – it was my second half marathon. I had an amazing experience running through the streets of New York – my favorite part was running through Times Square. It was also the first race I ran in my sports bra, which was another amazing experience!

This time last year I ran 6.2 miles of the New York Marathon with my running buddy Aileen for her first marathon. It was amazing to be running the streets with my friends, but I didn’t focus much on the race itself because it was Aileen’s Marathon, not mine! 🙂

My most recent NYC race was the Half Marathon in March 2010. This was an amazing experience for me for a few reasons.

1) I had run the Disney Princess Half Marathon 2 weeks earlier and had an incredible Re-PR

2) At the 2010 Half Marathon in NYC I have run my fastest Half Marathon to date with a PR of 1:49:38 – the time which qualified me for the Chicago Starting Corral D!

The 2010 NYC Half Marathon was a good race for me!

March 308

Since I just ran a marathon a few weeks ago, my goal for today is the same as it was for Chicago – to finish with a smile on my face. I think this is ALWAYS going to be my marathon goal – and it’s a pretty good one!

Obviously I would like to beat my Chicago time, but I am very realistic that it just might not happen today. NYC is not said to be a course for breaking records because of the mass amounts of people, the 5 bridges and a nasty hill around mile 20 (so I have heard), but I am going to try my very best and enjoy the marathon experience!

Wish me lots of luck and I will be back with my NYC Marathon recap!
