Simple Frozen Fruit Smoothie

Can we just talk for a second about the fact that I have been making smoothies & juices for years and until a few days ago, never really used frozen fruit?! What is wrong with me? I was inspired by a smoothie I had at a coffee shop in Fairmount the other day and it reignited my love for smoothies. But we have been all over the place the past few weeks, it’s been hard to keep fresh fruit or vegetables around without them going bad – so I decided to check out the frozen fruit section of the grocery store.

For under $5 I was able to get these 3 bags of frozen fruit and it will last me for about 4-5 smoothies, which is awesome! I seriously don’t know why I haven’t been using frozen fruit more over the past few years – its so much easier to keep in your freezer and not worry about it going bad in a week. I decided to use a few simple frozen fruits – pineapple, strawberries & blueberries – 1/2 cup of each and a tablespoon of flax seeds for good measure in my smoothie.

I also have been trying to add more protein into my diet to go along with my growing baby bump.  I really like the Whole Foods brand of Whey Protein Powder, it doesn’t have as much sugar as I’ve seen in other options and the chocolate flavor is so yummy.

Mix everything together with 1 cup of orange juice and blend everything in my trusty VitaMix and you are good to go! I love that this smoothie combination is so simple and only is made from a few ingredients. I started off using just the fruit and OJ and then decided to add in to flax seeds and protein powder for a little added kick.

Seriously, I love this combination and I’ve been making this smoothie just about everyday for an afternoon snack. It’s so yummy, I’m obsessed  – and I love it even more in my new Insulated 20 oz. Mason Jar mug! The perfect accessory for any smoothie!

    All time favorite combo is frozen blueberries, spinach, chocolate Plant Fusion, Protien Plus Peanut Flour, and Ice!

    Looks Yummy, thanks for the recipe! Frozen fruits are way more economical and just as nutritious!

    I buy those frozen fruits, plus mangoes, from TJs for smoothies too! My favorite combination is almond milk, 1/2 banana, a little frozen strawberries, blueberries, mango, and pineapple plus vanilla protein powder and kale. I usually stir in some chia seeds, too!
