Team Pink or Team Blue?

This week is a very special week for me – on Friday we find out the gender of our first baby!

<insert crazy excitement here!>

I feel like this has been such a long time coming. It feels like FOREVER ago when we first found out we were pregnant, told our families and then told the world. Waiting until {almost} 20 weeks for the anatomy scan, being just about halfway through the pregnancy – it’s so crazy to think that all the time has gone by and so much has changed and we still don’t know – he or she?

Charles & I always knew that we wanted to find out the gender of our baby. It was never an issue – It’s always been something we both wanted  to share with our family and friends- neither of us could go the whole 9 months without knowing! I give props to those than can wait and be surprised, I’m not that patient!

I think after we find out the news on Friday everything will be even more real than it already is – and we can’t wait! I am counting down the minutes until our appointment. So today I wanted to check out some of the old wives tales out there & see what they predict for my pregnancy.

Which Team Are You On

1.  Chinese Gender Predictor – Ancient Chinese gender predictor using your Chinese lunar age at conception and the Chinese lunar month of conception.

  • Result: Calendar says – > GIRL

2.  Fetal Heart Beat – Tale is that 140+ BPM is a girl while less than 140+ is a boy.

  • Result: at 7 weeks it was 130, at 12 weeks it was 155  – at my other appointments it has been in that same range too, so I’m not sure about this one.

3.  Morning Sickness – If you’re tossing your cookies, it’s a girl!  If you’re not, a bouncing baby boy.

  • Result: I felt hungover for the first few months, but I only actually got sick twice.

4.  Sweet or Sour Cravings – If you’re craving sweets it’s a girl.  If you’re craving sour/salty it’s a boy.

  • Result: I always craved sweets pre-pregnancy so this isn’t anything new to me. Right now some cheddar popcorn with a side of sour patch kids sounds pretty amazing. I also have been loving lots of fruit like grapes and granny smith apples too.

5.  Body Clues – They say that little girls steal their mother’s beauty leading to acne etc.  Little boys cause dry hands and cold feet.

  • Result:  I have had a little bit of acne, not all on my face and I have also had dry hands.

6.  Even and Odd – Looking at the mother’s age at conception and the year, if both numbers are even or odd it’s a girl, if they’re opposite it’s a boy.

  • Result: 29 in 2013  – >GIRL

7.  How You Carry = If you’re carrying the baby high and round it’s a girl.  Low and pointy is a boy.

  • Result: During my last appointment my doctor said at this point in my pregnancy my uterus is beginning to shift up. So I think I have been carrying a little low, but its on the move as I can feel things shifting up. Hard to say. Check out my baby bump photos and let me know what you think.

8. Ring Test – Hang your wedding ring on a string over your belly. If it swings in a circle, it’s a boy. Back and forth, it’s a girl.

  • Result: Back and forth -> Girl

9. Baking Soda – Pee in a cup and mix in 1 tablespoon of baking soda {yes I did this, don’d judge}. If the mixture fizzles, it’s a boy. If it doesn’t, you’ve got yourself a girl!

  • Result: Did not Fizz -> Girl

I know the Old Wives Tales have a 50/50 chance of being right, just like everyone else out there but it’s still fun to play along and see. I’m not sure if all my answers are very helpful for guessing but I tried! Did any of the Old Wives Tales stand out for you in your pregnancy? Let me know!

I plan to share the gender of our baby on the blog next week! We have an exciting reveal planned for the long weekend with family at the beach & I can’t wait! But for now, I’d love to hear your guesses –  Use the poll below to vote on what you think: Team Pink or Team Blue?!
