Friday Favorites: Breastfeeding Essentials

Don’t forget to enter my Flywheel Philly 10 Ride Giveaway!

So I know I mentioned a few weeks ago that breastfeeding is hard, and while that still is true, as I am currently 3 weeks into my nursing journey I am happy to report that each day has been easier than the day before. Things have definitely been improving in the breastfeeding department – I’m not sure if it’s because I am getting more used to it or the fact that I have been going to a weekly nursing support group for help or what but I am definitely feeling better about it!

Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite {breastfeeding} things – these are just a few of the main products that I have been using on a daily basis the past 3 weeks. Check them out and please let me know if you have a favorite nursing product that I need to add to my list!

Breastfeeding Essentials

I initially started out using these nursing pads but I quickly found out how uncomfortable they were so I did a little online research and found Bamboobies – they are so soft and comfortable, I love them!

When I discussed my initial discomfort with the lactation consultant in the hospital I was given this cream to use after nursing and I really think it has helped!

Just like my Pregnancy Tea, I have been enjoying this Mother’s Milk tea since coming home from the hospital – word on the street is it helps with milk supply, but I also have to say that I enjoy the licorice taste, especially with a spoon of honey!

Every nursing mama needs some good nursing tank tops – I love these and these!

I received this nursing cover to try out and I love it – it provides great coverage and its so easy to keep in my diaper bag for when Brooks needs to nurse when we are out and about. It’s light, breathable  and has a flexible neckline so I can easily look down and see my little man – such an awesome breastfeeding essential to have!

I’ve been using this MammaBaby app to track everything baby – including feedings. I don’t think I would be able to keep track of what side or how long without it!

Water, water & more water – seriously, I always drink a lot of water, but I have been drinking it like crazy since nursing. I also learned from my nursing class to mix 8 oz hot H20 + 1 tsp. salt to make a saline solution to help ease sore nipples. It works like a charm!

I was sent this awesome nursing pillow, complete with elephant cover {which goes perfectly with Brooks’ nursery}  and I can’t say enough good things about it! It has a thick to thin grow which allows for any comfortable nursing position – I use it all the time. Brooks also loves to lay back in it & check out the lights – I know he’s going to continue to use it as he grows!

While I haven’t used my breast pump yet, I know it will become an important part of my breastfeeding essentials very soon. I was lucky enough to get this bad boy for free from my insurance, which is awesome – I’m excited to test it out when the time comes!

One thing that I would definitely add to your list are Medela Soft Shells. They seriously were a lifesaver for me. They allow your nips to air dry, prevent chafing from clothes, collect leaking milk and also slightly draw out your nipples. I loved these! They looked a bit off under clothes because of shape, but I didn’t care at all because they took the pain away and allowed me to heal quicker.

I still drink the tea above and I’m 7 weeks pp and have a great supply. I’m almost afraid to stop drinking it now.

In a few weeks I bet that nursing will become second nature to you and hopefully no longer any pain. For me the hardest part was the first few weeks and the suddenly it was easier. 🙂

I am glad it is going so well! BTW, the pillow link goes to cover only. Does that happen to be the Dr Brown Gia pillow? Thanks!
