17 Months with Brooks

For a look back at previous Brooks updates, check out the baby page – which I recently changed the name to Brooks, since he’s not the only baby in these parts anymore!

Growth – No new update on growth officially, we have our next appointment scheduled for 18 months so will get all the nitty gritty growth update then! I can’t wait to see how much B weighs at his next doctors visit.

Nursing  – We stopped nursing at 13 months! For more of an update & my recap check out my On Stopping Nursing post!

Baby Led Weaning – Our BLW update is nothing new and exciting. Little man loves to eat, he has a great little appetite but his choice of eats focuses on carbs, dairy, some protein and more carbs. I’ve been trying to get a little more creative with his eats to broaden his horizons but I’ve also been a little lazy with my own eating these days so it’s been challenging. I blame the 8th month of pregnancy. I try my hardest to get more fruits and veggies snuck into his diet when I can, but whenever I offer them in their natural form, I get Brooks’ new favorite word – No. He says its sweetly though, so it’s rather cute, but I just wish I could get more into him. I think this is going to be a constant struggle!

Teething – As of my last count Brooks has 10 teeth and I think another one coming in up top in the front. He’s got a cute little gap with his two front teeth, which I find adorable, but it will be interesting to see what happens to that once all his others come in. No extra drama with the teething so far {knock on wood} aside from the extra drool.

Sleeping – I don’t even know if I want to talk about this because I seriously can’t afford to jinx it, but little man is still sleeping away like a champ. Goes down around 7pm and wakes up around 7am with no drama in between. I know this won’t go on forever, but I am just crossing everything that I’ve got that it at least goes on until little brother is here. Then I won’t be sleeping anyways, so it won’t really matter! Ha!

Naps – Naps are still all over the place, but again, because Brooks sleeps so well at night {knock on all the wood!} I don’t care so much about the naps. Some days he will take two, some days he will take one and other days he won’t take any and I’ll put him down a bit earlier. The no nap days are challenging, but manageable. As long as B isn’t a cranky disaster, it’s all good. We’ve been back and forth to the beach, going all over the place so his schedule is totally crazy so his naps are a little crazy too. On days we don’t do much + hang around the house, he usually takes two naps – otherwise if we are out and about, its more of a one nap kinda day. I don’t let it dictate my day as long as he gets a good nights sleep!

Jackson & Brooks – Still no real change here either. I think these two will be quick besties once #2 comes along. Brooks would LOVE to play with Jackson all day, but J would rather take a nap under a table. Ha!

Sign Language – No new sign language words taught or being taught because Brooks is speaking so well! More on that below!

Words – Brooks can and does say pretty much anything and everything. He loves to talk and is super vocal. If you ask him to say something, he will – he chatters all day. He loves saying noises and sounds and repeating everything. There are even certain things we have to spell out {in the snack department!} that we can’t say because he knows what we are talking about and will ask for it! I’m so blown away by his vocabulary but also just how much he actually understands! Anything I ask him to do {pick up, get me, bring me, go to..} he gets and does! It’s amazing!

Loves – Brooks loves to explore! He loves to climb and jump and run and chatter away! He keeps me busy all day long but it’s so much fun! I seriously love this age! It’s slightly challenging in the summer with this heat + being this pregnant, but everything is awesome to Brooks right now. He’s such a happy kid and loves to be outside + around other little ones and people – it’s so fun to sit back and watch him, he’s constantly learning and growing right before my eyes!

Eleanor turned 1 two weeks ago! She has about 12 teeth (hard to know if the molars are all the way through without risking a finger). She is finally starting to eat better and drink from a straw cup. She nurses 2-3 times a day/night and makes all kinds of sounds and a few words we can figure out (mom, dad, dog, cat, hi). She loves to wave and blow kisses and this melts my heart when I pick her up at daycare!

She is also becoming quite the momma’s girl and even when dada is with her, she will cling to the baby gate and cry (we call it the wailing wall).

Gaga can’t believe Brooks is growing up right before my eyes – he is truly an amazing child in every way! I absolutely love this age as well!
