19 Months with Brooks

For a look back at previous Brooks updates, check out the baby page – which I recently changed the name to Brooks, since he’s not the only baby in these parts anymore!

Growth – No official growth update, but little man has been getting taller for sure. I also think that from all the extra running around he’s been doing he’s gotten a little skinnier too. I think the main form of growth the past month would have to be on the top of his head! He’s gotten some major hair in this month and it’s about time! He’s been my nearly bald babe for the past 1.5 years so its nice to see some hair coming in – I love that its blonde with curls! Sort of hope it stays that way. 19

Nursing  – We stopped nursing at 13 months! For more of an update & my recap check out my On Stopping Nursing post!

Baby Led Weaning – Check out our BLW update for more specifics, but in terms of eats little man has been making major progress in the food department. I have been taking pictures of various meals he enjoys and I plan to do a toddler eats post in the future but this month we’ve made big headway with fruits and veggies! Brooks asks for apples constantly, will eat raw carrots and has a entire banana every morning! Love it!

Teething – I can’t get in there to count any teeth action but I know he has quite a few. Our new current struggle is in the teeth category because it involves brushing Brooks’ teeth – and by struggle I mean he won’t let us do it! Ha! He was fine with it when we were just putting water on the toothbrush but now that we’ve added toothpaste, he clenches his mouth and won’t let us in there. I’ve tried different toothpastes & different toothbrushes, but no luck. Any words of wisdom in this area?

Sleeping – Sleeping is going well, thank the heavens! I don’t think I would have been able to survive this past month without him keeping up his good sleep habits. Majority of the month he’s been a star at going down at 7pm and up at 7am. We’ve had a few earlier mornings, in the 6:30am zone but we’ve had a few days where Brooks has slept in until about 8am and that’s been all sorts of awesome. I wish I could sleep like that!

Naps – Naps have been a little touch and go but I think we have started the transition to one nap. I pushed back his morning nap bit by bit and now he’s going down around 10:30/11am depending on when he gets up + what we do that morning. He only really gives me 1.5 hours MAX sometimes less, occasionally more but I would love it to be more of a 2+ hour gig consistently. He does a rare nap in the afternoon but it all just depends.

Jackson & Brooks – Brooks’ new thing is screaming Jacksons name and chasing his around the couch. It’s all sorts of awesome.

Sign Language – Brooks says all the words now so no more signing at this point.

Words – Brooks will literally say every single word you ask him too. He will repeat everything and even if he can’t say it exactly right, he will seriously try. He also says sentences – he can pair 2-3 words together and tell you something. It’s so amazing how quick he’s been able to communicate. We are currently working on letters, numbers, colors + animals with him – it’s so fun to see him soak up every piece of information we give him!

Loves – Being outside, playing with friends, hanging with the grandparents, any and every activity, trains, Chuggington, Daniel Tiger and his radio flyer wagon. He pretty much loves anything and everything and is a really happy, loving, silly + social little guy. I can’t wait for him to meet his brother and to see how the two of them interact eventually!

I can’t believe my first grandson is already 19 months old! Yikes, but loving every minute with him. He is a great little companion for sure! I’m sure he will teach his new baby brother lots of fun things! Love all the photos!
