So this weekend we celebrated Brooks’ second birthday. It’s pretty much been a week long celebration because we’ve been having friends and family stop by for days to wish the birthday boy a happy birthday and to drop off gifts. Little man was totally spoiled. It was pretty much like Christmas all over again, a month later. Oh, January birthdays. At least it was nice weather – 50+ degrees in January – I’ll take it! balloon

Oh Friday, Brooks’ actual birthday, my parents came into the city and took the birthday boy out to lunch. They also brought him a special cupcake, because obviously he needed cake on his birthday. Duh.

Make a wish!

On Sunday we had his actual birthday party – I wanted to do something that his friends – ranging from one – four years would all be able to enjoy. And I didn’t want it at my house. Last year I had the party at home, we invited everyone and had a balloon artist. It was awesome { I was also secretly 2 months pregnant at the time!} but as the kids get bigger and the guest lists gets bigger, our little house in the city just can’t cut it.

Brooks takes art class at a local art studio every week and I found out they throw parties there. It’s local, Brooks loves it, and they promised me a party kids of all ages would enjoy. I was sold – and I knew right away I wanted to make little smocks with everyone’s names on it as part of their treat for coming!

Having the party not at my house was amazing, but also because we didn’t have to worry about anything! I was so low stress, I can’t believe it! I ordered pizza a few days prior, so I didn’t have to worry about any food. My MIL was bringing over a cake and some drinks for the kids and Charles and I wanted to have some beers + a mimosa bar for the adults. All we had to do was wheel some booze down the street and show up!

All the paper goods + supplies for the art class was covered. They provided the paper plates, napkins, blowers, party hats, cups – everything! It was pretty amazing because that stuff is usually so annoying to pick up, set up, keep track of – one less thing to worry about so I was pumped they provided it!

We got there early and Brooks spent the first 20 minutes playing with the blower. Instant hit.

I helped myself to a mimosa – best idea ever at a kids party!

Once all the kids got there it was time to start the fun. We went with the jackson pollock paint party and it was a giant mess of craziness – perfect for a two year olds party!

We started off with puff stickers on the giant white paper that the kids could destroy.

Then we added paint.

And more paint.

And lots of paint!

Eventually monster trucks and shaving cream were added to the giant mix of paint. The kids pretty much loved it!

Actually the kids art turned out pretty good looking on paper!

Each kid was also given a piece of paper to decorate at the end – as part of some art they could take home. It was a fun little treat for each of the artists!

Once everyone was cleaned up, which took a while, then we headed into another room to have pizza and cake! The pizza was a big hit for the kids and the adults. And everyone was hungry after all that art!

Brooks had been waking up from his naps all week asking for cake, so I knew this was going to be a big hit! Everyone sang Happy Birthday and the birthday boy got to make a wish!

And then he got to eat all the cake – he had 1.5 pieces, I think he would have eaten more had it been given to him! Ha!

After all the cake was eaten it was time to head home – a 1.5 hour party, not at my house, where I didn’t have to clean anything up was all sorts of amazing. Everyone had a blast at the art class and it was so much fun to watch all the kids create and play and make a big mess! We had a blast, I can’t wait to see what we have in store for the next birthday!

What’s the best kids party you’ve been to?
