Body After Baby #2 – Tips for Getting Back in Shape

I think that after baby #2 it’s pretty obvious that getting back into shape after a second pregnancy isn’t easy. I’ve been blessed with some pretty good genes {thanks mom!} but I will say that after baby #2, when you have two littles to care for + chase around, keeping your health in the top of the priority list doesn’t always happen. Some days I’m lucky if I have something other than chocolate + coffee before noon {like today!}

As I start to get ready for our upcoming trip to Mexico in 2 weeks, and I start bathing suit shopping {someone hold me} I wanted to take a few minutes to look back on the past 6+ {almost 7} months and how I’ve gotten back into my pre-baby clothes!

1 – Juice. Green Juice. I’ve gotten into the fabulous habit of drinking a green juice most mornings and it’s made all the difference. I find that when I start my day off on a fantastic kick like that, I’m more likely to make better choices throughout the day.

2- Running – After 3 years on and off with running during my past two pregnancies I’ve finally gotten back into a really good place with running again. Thanks to my amazing neighbor, Kelly, who I run with a few times a week – it’s so much more fun with a friend. And I’m so much more likely to get out there to run when I make plans with a buddy! Also, I’ve found it’s my little quiet time that I secretly enjoy a little too much – 30 – 60 minutes baby free a few times a week, I’m in! Everyone needs a little break.

3- Running around with the littles . I totally think that I’ve burned more than my fair share of calories running around after Brooks. Not to mention the fact that carrying around every now and then, picking up 30 lbs of toddler – it’s a workout!


4. Nursing. Done + done.

5. Balance – I feel like I totally wouldn’t have lost the baby weight I have if I really restricted myself. I enjoy sweets and wine + beer and all sorts of goodies when we are out and about with the littles. I like to be able to reward myself for taking the littles out on exciting adventures with a soft pretzel, and that’s all good. A nursing, running, mom of two, you got to keep it balanced or I think I would loose it!


At times I’ve felt that I’ve had a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. But eventually, over time, the hips start to shrink back down, the boobs will go back to normal and everything in my closet feels new again – because some of it I haven’t worn in a year plus!

    I’ve always wanted to try one of those fat sculpture treatments, especially after hitting menopause – but I think they are very expensive so I haven’t looked into it. You are doing a great job getting back to pre-pregnancy shape – everything in moderation my dear – keep up the good work!
