Put Yourself First

Sometimes you just got to do it.

You have to put yourself first.

I know I’m guilty of getting so wrapped up in my mom gig that sometimes a day can go by and I haven’t done a damn thing for myself. Yes, I’ve made meals, changed diapers, cleaned the kitchen, done laundry, gotten everyone where they need to be and been running around like a crazy person.

It’s a little crazy. And it’s every day.

Sure, I also know that I signed up to be a stay at home mom. I’ve chosen this {I know how lucky I am} and this is what I want to do.

But let’s be real, mommin’ ain’t easy and the littles can be challenging and sometimes you just need a moment.

Like for instance, to use the restroom.

I don’t think thats asking a lot, but hey – I could be wrong!

So I made the decision when Brooks started up at preschool and we had a little structure to our weeks that on those school days, I would carve out a little time and put myself first.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are days when my mom comes over to see the boys and help me out. It would be easy to use that time, those two days a week to DO EVERYTHING – grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, cleaning, meal prep, all the usual suspects. And most of the time we get all that stuff done, but I’ve been making a point to take a step back, and do a little something for me on those days.

Usually I put myself when I make the time to go for a run. It’s been my twice a week thing that I do for myself, by myself.

So simple and usually only 30 minutes or so but so effective at making me feel good and it’s something I look forward to on the days I get this time to myself.

Another way I put myself first is the simple task of taking my daily vitamin – Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist Recommended brand for many key dietary supplement categories* and I’ve been taking it for years. Brooks and I have a morning ritual of taking our vitamins together, it’s a good reminder to do it together and to show him a good example of small things you can do everyday to take care of yourself.
